Specialist, Tutoring Part-Time (50%)<\/strong><\/p>\n Job #1006058<\/p>\n JOB PURPOSE<\/p>\n Uses American Sign Language (ASL) fluency to provide support to Deaf and REPORTS TO Manager, Learning Lab<\/p>\n DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND TASKS<\/p>\n Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Tutors individuals or groups of Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing students using KNOWLEDGE<\/p>\n Must possess required knowledge and be able to explain and demonstrate, with Required<\/p>\n * Individual and group tutoring techniques and standards for tutoring Preferred<\/p>\n * Knowledge of American Sign Language grammar, comprehension, and SKILLS<\/p>\n Must possess required skills and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or Required<\/p>\n * Maintaining an established work schedule. COMPUTER SKILLS<\/p>\n Required<\/p>\n * Demonstrated proficiency using standard office software applications. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS<\/p>\n * Occasional lifting of objects up to 20 pounds. WORK EXPERIENCE<\/p>\n Required<\/p>\n * Two years related work experience. Preferred<\/p>\n * Experience teaching or tutoring English using American Sign Language. EDUCATION<\/p>\n Required<\/p>\n * Bachelor’s degree in Education, Deaf Education or discipline related to OTHER<\/p>\n Required<\/p>\n * Recent experience or practice working with subject material from area of SAFETY<\/p>\n * Work safely and follow safety rules. \ntutorial services; coordinates with students, lab tutors, and faculty
\nregarding tutorial services. Tutors Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing students using
\nASL in area of specialization: Developmental and College Level English.
\nIncluding, but not limited to English as a Second Language, English
\nComprehension, Composition and Literature.<\/p>\n
\nmay be assigned.<\/p>\n
\nAmerican Sign Language (ASL) in area of specialization, all aspects of
\nEnglish comprehension and composition, including college study skills.
\n2. Organizes and leads study groups for subjects in high demand; organizes
\ntextbooks and\/or supplemental learning materials as required.
\n3. Assists in promoting maximum use of the Learning Lab resources and
\ncomputer lab, including conducting classroom visits and communicating with
\nfaculty.
\n4. Researches resources used for implementing tutorial activities.
\n5. Provides feedback to faculty, Student Services and Office of Students
\nwith Disabilities as appropriate, regarding student performance and progress
\nas well as reporting on professional goals, performance and progress.
\n6. Assists in developing and implementing tutor training in area of
\nspecialization; coordinates peer tutors in designated subject area.
\n7. Provides assistance with developing, delivering and evaluating programs
\nand services in area of specialization.<\/p>\n

\n* Providing quality tutorial services to groups and individuals.

\n* Ability to learn college educational software & tutorials, and be able to
\nprovide technical support for students in area of specialization, i.e. video
\ncapture software and techniques used for recording ASL compositions.<\/p>\n
\n* Subject to standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, kneeling,
\npushing and pulling.
\n* Work is performed in an office environment.<\/p>\n
\n* Experience working in a deaf educational setting where English is taught
\nusing American Sign Language.<\/p>\n
\n* One year experience in post-secondary deaf education.<\/p>\n
\ntutoring subject.
\nPreferred
\n* Master’s degree in a field related to Education\/Deaf Education or relating
\nto area of tutoring specialization<\/p>\n
\nspecialization.<\/p>\n
