Mrs. McAlister was born on December 7, 1936, in Houston,<br \/>\nTexas, to Gordon Bailey Allen and Fannie Weinona Allen. She was very active<br \/>\nin causes for people who were deaf and hard of hearing. Mrs. McAlister<br \/>\nserved three, three-year terms for the Texas Commission for the Deaf and<br \/>\nHard of Hearing Board for Evaluation of Interpreters and also served as an<br \/>\nevaluator for the Certification Board from 1983 \u2013 2008. She also taught sign<br \/>\nlanguage courses in Interpreter Training for Lee College, Houston Community<br \/>\nCollege and North Harris County College. Additionally, Mrs. McAlister served<br \/>\non the Advisory Board for the Interpreter Training Programs at Lee College,<br \/>\nNorth Harris County College and the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.<br \/>\nShe served on numerous task forces for the Texas Education Agency and the<br \/>\nTexas Commission for the Dear and Hard of Hearing. Mrs. McAlister also<br \/>\nserved two terms as President of the Greater Houston Interpreters of the<br \/>\nDeaf. While she worked in an educational setting for many years at all<br \/>\nlevels and in a variety of medical settings, her greatest love was in court<br \/>\ninterpreting.<\/p>\n<p>Preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Gloria Slates; Mrs.<br \/>\nMcAlister is survived by her loving husband, Michael McAlister; son, David<br \/>\nLee Dudley and wife, Patty, of Macungie, Pennsylvania; step-daughters, Renee<br \/>\nMarshall and husband, George, of Spring, Beth Bruce and husband, Steven, of<br \/>\nHouston, and Katy McAlister, of Algonquin, Illinois; sister, Menefee<br \/>\nHoldren; grandchildren, Tyler, Rachel and John Dudley, Chad and Amy Cegelski<br \/>\nand Madeline McAlister; \u201cfavorite niece,\u201d Kathleen Holdren and her children<br \/>\nLacey Webster and husband, Jason, Lindsay Ellis (Godchild) and husband,<br \/>\nChad, and Leslie Benbrook; nephews, David Lavon Brewer and wife, Wanda, and<br \/>\ntheir children, Adam and Stacy and Richard Holdren and wife, Marilou, and<br \/>\ntheir children, Marlow and Richmond; and numerous other friends, family and<br \/>\ncolleagues who will miss her.<\/p>\n<p>The family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 3, 2010, from 6 \u2013 8 p.m.<br \/>\nat Crespo &amp; Jirrels Funeral Home. The service will be held at 10 a.m. on<br \/>\nWednesday, August 4, 2010, in the Chapel of Crespo &amp; Jirrels, with Pastor<br \/>\nJohn Raddatz of Joy Lutheran Church officiating. Entombment will follow at<br \/>\nMemory Gardens Mausoleum.
