Witness convention focuses on a message rarely heard: Stay close to God<\/strong><\/p>\n

Denton, TX\u2014In a world where some powerful and influential voices in academia
\nand media dismiss or disparage belief in God, Jehovah\u2019s Witnesses are
\nproclaiming the importance of such belief, actually promoting the
\nstrengthening of one\u2019s personal attachment to God. The Witnesses will
\npresent an intriguing approach to the topic as a clarion call to the
\nfaithful as well as an analysis of faith and reason at their 2010 \u201cRemain
\nClose to Jehovah!\u201d District Convention. The convention is scheduled to begin
\nFriday at the Denton, TX Assembly Hall of Jehovah\u2019s Witnesses.<\/p>\n

The convention will be presented as encouragement for those who already
\nbelieve in God and wish to deepen their spirituality. However, the program
\nwill also feature parts that respectfully examine different attitudes
\nnonbelievers have toward God and misconceptions that hinder many from
\ndeveloping an intimate friendship with God. The Witnesses believe that a
\ncareful reading of Bible passages can reveal much about God\u2019s personality
\nand how humans can draw close to a God they cannot see.<\/p>\n

The Friday morning session will feature the keynote address, \u201cHow Jehovah
\nDraws Close to Us.\u201d On Friday afternoon, most of the program will focus on
\nhow family members can enhance their communication with one another based on
\ntheir individual relationships with God. The session will conclude by
\nfocusing on why faith in God must be built on fact and reason, taking a
\ncloser look at evidence supporting what is stated in the Bible at Romans
\n1:20.<\/p>\n

Saturday\u2019s program will feature positive steps one can take to protect
\none\u2019s spirituality and one\u2019s relationship with God. This point will be
\nespecially emphasized on Saturday morning, when local residents who studied
\nthese and other Bible topics in detail will publicly symbolize their
\npersonal dedication to God during a baptism ceremony. This ordination of new
\nministers will include a discussion based on Galatians 4:9.<\/p>\n

On Sunday morning, a fast-moving series of talks will provide a fresh
\nexamination of eight aspects of God\u2019s appealing personality as revealed in
\nthe Scriptures. The public discourse, entitled \u201cHow Can You Draw Close to
\nGod?\u201d will address several questions, such as: Does God exist? If so, has he
\ncommunicated with mankind? By what means? A special feature on Sunday
\nafternoon will be a full-costume drama set in the first century, focusing on
\nGod\u2019s desire to deliver those close to him when he brings an end to
\nwickedness on earth.<\/p>\n

Jehovah\u2019s Witnesses invite everyone to attend and learn more about these
\ntopics. All three days of the convention, the program sessions begin at 9:20
\na.m. Admission is free, and no collections will be taken.<\/p>\n
