Deafness Resource Specialist (DRS) (McAllen, Texas)<\/p>\n
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
\nto work with persons who are deaf, hard of hearing and late-deafened
\nin the areas of advocacy, self-empowerment and sensitivity training,
\nas well as with Federal and State mandates on equal access to
\nservices, including education and employment. In many instances,
\nSpecialists work as liaisons between consumers and service providers
\non appropriate service provision.<\/p>\n
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
\n\u2022 Responds to customer requests for information
\n\u2022 Provides specific information related to services
\n\u2022 Educates consumers on ADA Issues.
\n\u2022 Maintains the confidentiality of the Customer profile information.
\n\u2022 Tracks, manages and communicates status to funding source.<\/p>\n
QUALIFICATIONS:
\n\u2022 High school graduate.
\n\u2022 Outstanding communication skills; excellent analytical skills.
\n\u2022 May be required to work varying hours including weekend and holidays depending upon the needs of the consumer.
\n\u2022 Strong oral communication, organizational and time management skills.
\n\u2022 Committed to excellence in customer service.
\n\u2022 Must have national or state certification at or above BEI Level I\/Basic.
\n\u2022 Must show commitments towards professional development activities and certification maintenance.
\n\u2022 Must have own transportation and be able to travel.
\n\u2022 Must have good understanding of deaf culture.
\n\u2022 Must be familiar with state laws, IDEA and ADA.<\/p>\n
