(Aug. 13, 2010) — CSD, one of the nation’s largest relay
and human service organizations for deaf and hard of hearing people, began
renovations and preparations to open a new contact center on their current
campus located along 10th Street in Sioux Falls, S.D., later this year. The
contact center is part of a two-year project that calls for a nationwide
awareness campaign and marketing initiative that combines subsidized
broadband, technology training, and specialized equipment — among other
things — for a targeted populace of 200,000 deaf and hard of hearing people.

The effort is the result of a recent multi-million dollar grant from the
National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA), under the
US Department of Commerce, as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment
Act and sustainable broadband initiatives (otherwise known as BTOP). Called
“Project Endeavor,” CSD intends to use this grant to create 60+ jobs in the
local market, several immediately available. Over the past two weeks, CSD
has feverishly been developing a series of job positions as well as the
overall infrastructure for the project. Once the
expansion is complete, CSD will have a total combined workforce of more than
500 in the Sioux Falls area, including those in an existing customer support
contact center, a telecommunications relay center, a video relay and
interpreting center, a human service center, and the organization’s
administrative headquarters.

CSD currently has 32 other locations throughout the U.S. and by the end of
this calendar year, there will be an estimated combined workforce of
approximately 2000 people nationwide. The size, scope and unique
characteristics of the organization make CSD one of the only non-profits of
its kind anywhere in the world.

“Our 35-year-old organization is growing, as evidenced by the flurry of new
jobs, expansion and new construction. These are all very positive signs that
indicate an obvious need for more space and more staff to better serve our
consumers. Given the current state of our nation’s economy and unemployment
rate, we couldn’t be more pleased with the current situation here at CSD,”
said Ben Soukup, CSD president and chief executive officer. “The expansion
of our contact center network and business division will enable us to
initiate broader marketing and educational initiatives and at the same time,
respond more efficiently to our customers’ needs from a modern,
state-of-the-art contact center.”

The new contact center will feature a modern and robust platform that
enables call support via voice, text, IP, Web-chat, and video.

To find out more about Project Endeavor or about current job vacancies
visit: http://www.c-s-d.org

About CSD — CSD (a.k.a.
