Come see the serious side of Keith Wann, the empowerment style of Lisa\u00a0Callsen, and the ASL phenomenon Windell “Wink” Smith Jr on stage with this\u00a0one of a kind coda show. Three unique individuals all growing up with Deaf\u00a0parents sharing many issues that arise for Deaf parents with their own\u00a0hearing children, it will also move you with topics and events that you\u00a0would never know happens to hearing children of deaf adults. Follow these\u00a0three storytellers as they weave ASL and voice and merge in between the Deaf\u00a0and Hearing worlds, learning language, culture, and life humanity. Through\u00a0humor and poignant moments you’ll “fishbowl watch” three powerful performers\u00a0share their stories and representing the culture without a land, coda that!<\/p>\n

\nMusic Workshop with Keith Wann 12\/4\/10 8AM – 12 PM (.4 QAST & RID CEUs)\u00a0OSU-OKC Conference Center South Third Floor Student Center Building.\u00a0Wave your hands in the air like you just don’t care! Your workshop\u00a0facilitator Keith Wann is all over the internet and Youtube performing\u00a0music, some with comedy, some a little more serious, but all tell a story.\u00a0He also interprets music on Broadway and for Universal Studios. along with a\u00a0monthly ASL music club for subscribers. Come learn, observe and discuss the\u00a0process that happens when a song is listened to, the story is found, and ASL\u00a0is combined to create a visual representation for the ASL Community.\u00a0Examples of work will be shared, some interpreting will be discussed, but\u00a0the focus in on performing. Group work will allow participants to practice\u00a0in a safe environment and see their stories come to live on their hands\u00a0while rockin’ the tunes! (Prices Below)<\/p>\n

Now ask a friend to picture a train and\u00a0have them explain or draw what they first saw. Is it the same image you had?\u00a0Most likely not, ASL is not any different; we all have different\u00a0\u201cpictures\u201d. One interpreter may interpret a concept completely differently\u00a0than you do. This workshop focuses on harnessing the ability to create a\u00a0beautiful ASL interpretation of an English text that bridges both the\u00a0cultural and linguistic gap while respecting each individual\u2018s \u201cpicture\u201d.\u00a0(Prices Below)<\/p>\n

Deaf Parents Form Discussion 12\/4\/10 9AM – 12PM (No CEUs awarded) OSU-OKC\u00a0Presidents Suite Third Floor Student Center BuildingAimed at Deaf parents\u00a0with hearing children, 18 and under, to help parents get insightful\u00a0information to encourage their child’s identity when it includes two\u00a0cultures. Giving parents resources, networking and anecdotes about what it’s\u00a0like to live in a Deaf household and maneuver the hearing world. We will\u00a0address common questions like, “why isn’t my child signing yet?” “Why won’t\u00a0my teenager tell me who they are talking to on the phone?” Other items will
\ninclude how to approach school officials about the dynamic of your family\u00a0and how to handle when strangers talk to your child without your permission.<\/p>\n

Keith Wann is one of America\u2019s funniest ASL comedians. Keith tours around the ASL Nation performing both of his one man shows \u201cWatching Two Worlds Collide\u201d. \u00a0Keith has gone Hollywood and was filmed in some PEPSI commercials to build hype for the “Bob” commercial. Keith has worked solo and in collaboration with other great ASL artists bringing to stage Coda stories, Deaf culture, Improv, and Sketch comedy. Lisa Callsen is an intriguing, dynamic and energetic speaker delivering an inspirational message. \u00a0As a hearing child of Deaf parents, she identifies with being a Coda (children of deaf adults). She is bi-lingual and bi-cultural. She believes we all have a story and wants you to embrace your own identity, culture and diversity. Windell \u201cWink\u201d Smith Jr is currently the Director of Outreach & Video Communications at SLRS- Sign Language Resource Services, Inc. Windell co-founded and serves as a volunteer CEO for a newly founded not-for-profit organization, Project N.A.D.I.N.E. (National Advocates on Deafness to Inform, Network and Enrich). Windell has also written and produced an ASL DVD entitled Idioms! \u201cDo You See What I\u2019m Saying\u201d? In addition to touring with coda365 Windell travels with his one man show \u201cLooking Up At Deaf Culture\u201d detailing the humorous and tragic events of his parents lives.
