ADA Roundtable Event (8\/31\/10)<\/strong><\/p>\n

Innovative Assistive Technology Solutions for Persons who are Hard of
\nHearing<\/p>\n

Join us Tuesday, August 31 from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at the Winters
\nBuilding, 701 W. 51st Street, Public Hearing Room (first floor) for this ADA
\nRound Table Event.<\/p>\n

At this ADA Roundtable, Rose Minette, Hard of Hearing Specialist for the
\nTexas Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services, will provide a
\nbrief overview of why we need assistive devices, including information on
\nthe latest innovative assistive technology solutions that can accommodate
\npersons who are deaf or hard of hearing in accessing the workplace,
\nbusinesses and public services. This event promises to be enlightening and
\ninteresting! Topics of discussion will include:<\/p>\n

* Assistive listening devices
\n* Best accommodation practices
\n* Improved accessibility for persons who are deaf or hard of hearing<\/p>\n

Bio<\/p>\n

Rose Aird Minette, M.A., is a Program Specialist employed by the Texas
\nDepartment of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services (DARS) – Office for Deaf
\nand Hard of Hearing Services. For the past 15 years she has created and
\nimplemented services statewide for persons with hearing loss. She currently
\nmanages 12 Hearing Loss Resource Specialist contractors and provides
\ntraining to a variety of audiences, including Vocational Rehabilitation
\nCounselors, Audiologists and other service providers. Ms. Minette holds a
\nMaster\u2019s degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders and a Teaching
\nCertificate in Deaf Education, both from the University of Texas at Austin.
\nShe has a severe-profound bilateral hearing loss, wears a hearing aid and
\nuses a variety of assistive devices.<\/p>\n
