Indianapolis – The Indiana School for the Deaf has canceled its football
\ngame Saturday at Maryland School for the Deaf. The move comes after several
\nteam members and coaches were disciplined.<\/p>\n

It’s unclear what happened on the field or after a game between the Indiana
\nSchool for the Deaf when it played a football game in Austin, Texas last
\nweekend against the Texas School for the Deaf, but it did result in actions
\ntaken against the Indiana team.<\/p>\n

School officials didn’t respond to repeated requests for an on-camera
\ninterview, but confirmed to our partners at The Indianapolis Star that there
\nwas an incident that led to the cancellation of a game between the Indiana
\nSchool For The Deaf and a Maryland team.The school says that the incident
\nwas reported to the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services.<\/p>\n

The school’s athletic director said that an investigation found no evidence
\nof a sexual assault and that coaches were disciplined along with a few
\nplayers for various behavior including vandalism.<\/p>\n

The school also declined to provide details about what happened, the numbers
\nof players involved, their ages and the punishment handed down. However, two
\nassistant coaches were removed from their positions on the team.<\/p>\n

The superintendent for the Texas School for the Deaf issued a statement
\nsaying that the incident that occurred on the Texas School for the Deaf
\ncampus did not include TDS students, adding that “we are confident that
\nofficials at Indiana School for the Deaf are managing this situation.”<\/p>\n

Whatever happened, it follows incidents involving inappropriate behavior
\nthat led to disciplinary action and criminal charges against four Carmel
\nHigh School basketball team members earlier this year and recent sanctions
\nagainst coaches and players on the Hamilton Southeastern football team.<\/p>\n
