C. 20554<\/p>\n<p>News Media Information 202 \/ 418-0500<br \/>\nInternet: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fcc.gov\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/www.fcc.gov<\/a><br \/>\nTTY: 1-888-835-5322<\/p>\n<p>For Immediate Release:<br \/>\nNovember 16, 2010<\/p>\n<p>News Media Contact:<br \/>\nRosemary Kimball at (202) 418-0511<br \/>\ne-mail: rosemary.kimball@fcc.gov<\/p>\n<p><strong>GREGORY HLIBOK NAMED CHIEF OF THE FCC\u2019S DISABILITY RIGHTS OFFICE<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Washington, DC &#8212; Gregory Hlibok, currently an attorney in the Disability<br \/>\nRights Office (DRO) in the Consumer and Governmental Affairs Bureau, has<br \/>\nbeen named to head that office.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGreg will be heading up the Disability Rights Office at a crucial time, as<br \/>\nthe FCC ramps up to implement the most significant disability law in two<br \/>\ndecades,\u201d said FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski. \u201cGreg possesses extensive<br \/>\nknowledge in the field of telecommunications access for people with<br \/>\ndisabilities as well as the leadership qualities necessary to lead the<br \/>\noffice. He will be the first head of DRO who has a disability. Under his<br \/>\ndirection, the office will work to ensure that people with disabilities can<br \/>\nshare fully in the economic and social benefits of emerging 21st century<br \/>\ntechnologies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Greg has been instrumental on a wide array of disability matters in DRO<br \/>\nsince 2001. He is known nationally for his role as spokesperson for the Deaf<br \/>\nPresident Now movement in 1988, which led to the selection of Gallaudet<br \/>\nUniversity\u2019s first deaf president. Gallaudet is the world&#8217;s only university<br \/>\nserving primarily deaf and hard of hearing students. At the FCC, he has<br \/>\ntaken the lead in several key rulemaking proceedings on telecommunications<br \/>\naccess for people with disabilities, including new initiatives on the<br \/>\nNational Broadband Plan. Greg now lives in Ellicott City, MD with his wife<br \/>\nand four children, and also serves as the board president of his alma mater,<br \/>\nLexington School for the Deaf. He is a graduate of Gallaudet University and<br \/>\nHofstra Law School.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to its new duties in implementing the new Act, the Disability<br \/>\nRights Office has responsibility for a variety of disability-related<br \/>\ntelecommunications matters, including telecommunications relay service<br \/>\n(TRS), access to telecommunications equipment and services by persons with<br \/>\ndisabilities, access to emergency information, and closed captioning.
