{"id":1263,"date":"2007-02-21T05:21:12","date_gmt":"2007-02-21T10:21:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/deafnetwork.com\/wordpress\/blog\/2007\/02\/21\/libby-pollard-at-tad-conference-2007\/"},"modified":"2007-02-21T05:21:12","modified_gmt":"2007-02-21T10:21:12","slug":"libby-pollard-at-tad-conference-2007","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/deafnetwork.com\/wordpress\/blog\/2007\/02\/21\/libby-pollard-at-tad-conference-2007\/","title":{"rendered":"Libby Pollard at TAD Conference 2007"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>TAD 2007 Conference ANNOUNCEMENT:<\/p>\n<p>During the TAD 2007 Conference, which will be held at the Arlington Hilton, June 21st \u2013 23rd, 2007, one of the fantastic presenters will be Ms. Libby Pollard.  <\/p>\n<p>Saturday morning, June 23rd, from  9:00 \u2013 12:00, Libby will be giving a three-hour workshop on Parliamentarian Procedures.  <\/p>\n<p>For those of you, who are interested, here is some information about Libby.<\/p>\n<p>Elizabeth \u201cLibby\u201d Pollard, a West Virginian native, is daughter of Deaf parents and attended the West Virginia School for the Deaf.  Later her family moved to Pittsburgh, PA where Libby enrolled at the Western Pennsylvania School for the Deaf (WPSD).  After she graduated from WPSD, in 1956, Libby attended Gallaudet College (University) for three years.<\/p>\n<p>During the 1960s, Libby became interested in computers and enrolled at the Electronics Computer Programming Institute in Cleveland, Ohio where she studied computer operating and programming for two years. Around the early 1970s and after holding a number of temporary jobs, she was hired by the Iron City Sash and Door Company in Pittsburgh as a keypunch\/data entry operator. Due to her desire to advance in the computer profession, Libby decided to return to school to study advanced computer Programming at Computer Tech, which was also in Pittsburgh. After graduating from Computer Tech, she was promoted to Junior Computer Programmer and later, Senior Programmer\/Systems Analyst. <\/p>\n<p>In April 2002, after 30 years with Iron City, Libby retired.<\/p>\n<p>Libby has always strongly believed in community service and has been involved with several local nonprofit organizations where she has held various offices.  She served as President of the local division of the National Fraternal Society for the Deaf, and was a member of the board of the Western Pennsylvania School for the Deaf Alumni Association, Gallaudet University Alumni Association and the local women and mixed bowling leagues. <\/p>\n<p>Also, she was the first woman President of the Pittsburgh Association of the Deaf, in the early 1980s, and while she was a board member of the Eastern Deaf Women Bowling Association for several years, she served as the organization\u2019s Vice President, Chair of Law Committee and later President. <\/p>\n<p>In 1985, Libby became involved with the Pennsylvania Society for the Advancement of the Deaf  (PSAD) and for 12 years served on the Board of Managers. She would later serve as the PSAD Secretary for six years before she being elected the organization\u2019s first woman President in 1992 for five years.<\/p>\n<p>Libby moved from the state to national level in 1994, when she was elected to the National Association of the Deaf  (NAD) Region I Board Member seat. Four years later, during the 1998 NAD Biennial Conference at San Antonio, Texas, she was elected President of NAD, becoming the third woman in the organization\u2019s 120-year history to hold the presidency. The first two were Gertie Galloway and Roz Rosen. <\/p>\n<p>Two years later, she was re-elected for another two years at the 2000 NAD Biennial Conference in Norfolk, Virginia.
