Both trainings take place June 11-15, 2011 at the<br \/>\nSouthwest Collegiate Institute for the Deaf (SWCID) in Big Spring, Texas.<\/p>\n<p>Tri-Lingual Interpreter Training: This training focuses on intensive<br \/>\nsign-to-voice and voice-to-sign trilingual interpreting. All participants<br \/>\nwill be screened for knowledge of Spanish and must verify their ASL skills;<br \/>\nBEI or RID\/NIC certification is preferred. Those without ASL interpreter<br \/>\ncertification will be screened for ASL skills. The screenings will ensure<br \/>\nproper placement for the weeklong training and enhancement of Tri-lingual<br \/>\ninterpreting skills. All screenings must be completed by May 11. Training is<br \/>\nlimited to 50 participants.<\/p>\n<p>For questions regarding the Tri-Lingual Training, please contact<br \/>\nYolanda.Chavira@dars.state.tx.us<\/p>\n<p>Deaf Interpreter Training: This training is for individuals who are deaf and<br \/>\nare interested in becoming a deaf interpreter, and for deaf interpreters who<br \/>\nwant to upgrade their skills. There will be two tracks: Introduction to Deaf<br \/>\nInterpreter Training and Advanced Deaf Interpreter Training. For the<br \/>\nAdvanced Deaf Interpreter track, this is limited to 20 participants who are<br \/>\nnot certified, must show that they have taken college courses under an<br \/>\nInterpreter Training Program or have experience as a deaf interpreter. For<br \/>\nthe Introduction to Deaf Interpreter Track, limited to 20 participants,<br \/>\nfluent ASL skills are necessary.<\/p>\n<p>For questions regarding the Deaf Interpreter Training, please contact<br \/>\nAnn.Horn@dars.state.tx.us<\/p>\n<p>The cost for both the Tri-Lingual Interpreter Training and the Deaf<br \/>\nInterpreter Training is $250 for Texas residents and $350 for out of state<br \/>\nparticipants. This cost includes room and meals on the SWCID campus. The<br \/>\nSWCID campus in Big Spring can be reached via the Midland-Odessa Airport;<br \/>\nvan service is available.
