The Chronicles of a Young Woman Growing Up Deaf and Jewish in<\/strong>
\n Nazi-controlled Germany and Her Escape to America<\/strong><\/p>\n

Followed by a discussion with Ingelore Herz Honigstein and her son Frank
\nStiefel, Director\/Producer<\/p>\n

WHAT: Ingelore Herz Honigstein was born in Kuppenheim, Germany in 1924. Deaf
\nand Jewish, she was considered a double outcast. Embarrassed by her
\ndisability, Ingelore\u2019s parents made no attempts to communicate with her,
\nresulting in delayed speech, completing her first sentence at age 12. She
\nentered first grade at age 13, but her education was cut short by
\nKristallnacht, after which Ingelore was thrown out of school. Told by
\nIngelore herself, the film chronicles her trials and tribulations in
\nNazi-controlled Germany and her escape to America. Her story includes a
\nbrutal rape by Nazi cadets, a kind New York doctor who performs an illegal
\nabortion in 1940 and her lessons of personal freedom.<\/p>\n
