Centennial, Colo., (May 3, 2011) \u2013 Today, Cochlear Americas, the global
\nleader in implantable hearing solutions, announced its participation in
\nBetter Hearing and Speech Month by launching a new campaign, \u201cHave You
\nHeard?\u201d to increase awareness of hearing loss and advanced hearing
\nsolutions. The campaign reflects Cochlear\u2019s commitment and passion for
\nbringing the gift of sound to those with hearing loss. Few people are aware
\nof this growing public health issue, its\u2019 social and economic impact and the
\navailability of hearing loss solutions. One out of every 10 people in the
\nU.S. are estimated to have hearing loss.1,2 And, an estimated two million
\npeople in the U.S. may be candidates for implantable technology, but
\napproximately only 5 percent of people who can benefit have been treated.3,4<\/p>\n

As part of this grassroots campaign Cochlear is challenging the public to
\nhelp spread the word about hearing loss and hearing loss solutions to one
\nmillion people in 31 days! \u201cWe want to encourage as many people as
\npossible to get involved in this effort and inspire others to help change
\nthe lives of those who may be struggling with hearing loss\u201d said Chris
\nSmith, President Cochlear Americas. \u201cFew people are aware of the meaning of
\nhearing loss, the challenges for individuals and families in dealing with
\nhearing loss and the options that are available to improve quality of
\nlife.\u201d<\/p>\n

With the launch of this new initiative, Cochlear Americas is encouraging all
\nAmericans to visit www.CochlearAmericas.com\/MillionEarChallenge<\/a> and take the
\nmillion ear challenge. Visitors will learn more about the facts of hearing
\nloss and available treatment solutions, read inspirational stories of people
\nwho have had their hearing restored with a cochlear implant and share
\nmessages of hope. When taking the challenge, visitors will be provided with
\na \u201cHave You Heard?\u201d e-toolkit. The toolkit will help them help others by
\nspreading the word through social media and online activities such as
\nFaceBook, Twitter, and email as well as local community events.<\/p>\n

Cochlear Americas is so excited about the \u2018Have You Heard?\u2019 campaign the
\ncompany developed the \u201cGive Back\u201d commitment. Each year Cochlear donates
\nmore than $200,000 in products and accessories to people in need. When the
\ngoal is reached through the Million Ear Challenge, they\u2019ll celebrate by
\ndonating up to an additional $150,000 in products and accessories to people
\nin need by \u201cgiving back\u201d two cochlear implants, ten processor upgrades and
