Jessie Faye Martinez, 85, of Amarillo died Wednesday, May 11, 2011.<\/p>\n

Celebration of life services will be at 10:30 a.m. today in Paramount
\nBaptist Deaf Church with Darrell Bonjour officiating. Burial will be in
\nLlano Cemetery by Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel, 2800 S. Osage St.<\/p>\n

Jessie was born June 18, 1925, in Estelline. As a child, she attended the
\nstate school for the deaf in Austin. She later moved to Denver, where she
\nresided for 30 years, prior to moving to Amarillo. She was a member of
\nParamount Baptist Deaf Church.<\/p>\n

Jessie was passionate about volunteering her time with the local deaf
\ncommunity. She had a compassionate and caring heart, and enjoyed being
\naround people. She also enjoyed playing cards and quilting. Many would
\ndescribe her as having a great, yet interesting sense of humor. She will be
\ndeeply missed by her family and friends.<\/p>\n

She was preceded in death by a son, Bobby Burnside.<\/p>\n

Survivors include her husband, Raymond Martinez; a sister, Beverly Vanpelt
\nof Wyoming; two granddaughters, Kim Sims and husband Stoney of Bushland and
\nJessica Moore and husband Ethan of Canyon; five great-grandchildren,
\nGrayson, Ally, Libby, Kennedy and Hank; and a daughter-in-law, Phyllis Tebo
\nof Amarillo.<\/p>\n

The family suggests memorials be to Paramount Baptist Deaf Church, 3817
\nHoliday Drive, Amarillo, TX 79109-4219.<\/p>\n
