SUMMER SCIENCE CAMP FOR DEAF AND HARD-OF-HEARING BOYS<\/strong><\/p>\n

Rochester, N.Y. \u2013 A new camp for deaf and hard-of-hearing boys entering 7th,
\n8th or 9th grades in September is being offered this summer at Rochester
\nInstitute of Technology\u2019s National Technical Institute for the Deaf.<\/p>\n

TechBoyz is designed to help boys learn about and consider jobs and careers
\nin science and technology. Campers will learn through hands-on activities
\nsuch as building their own computer to take home, discovering the secrets of
\nroller coaster design and becoming a commander on a simulated mission to
\nMars. They also will meet other boys with similar interests, enjoy
\nsocial activities and get their own lab coats.<\/p>\n

TechBoyz is an expansion of TechGirlz, a popular summer program for deaf and
\nhard-of-hearing girls for many years at RIT\/NTID.<\/p>\n

Both TechBoyz and TechGirlz will be held July 30 through Aug. 5, 2011, on
\nthe RIT campus. The boys and girls will have independent classes and share
\nsupervised social activities in the evenings.<\/p>\n

Camp classes are taught in English and in sign language, are certified by
\nthe New York State Department of Health, and incorporate National Science
\nEducation standards. The cost is $650 and includes tuition, housing in a
\nresidence hall on campus, and meals and snacks for the week.<\/p>\n

The deadline to apply is May 31, 2011.<\/p>\n

\nhard of hearing. RIT enrolls 17,000 full- and part-time students in more
\nthan 200 career-oriented and professional programs, and its cooperative
\neducation program is one of the oldest and largest in the nation.<\/p>\n

NTID, one of nine colleges of RIT, was established by Congress in 1965 to
\nprovide college opportunities for deaf and hard-of-hearing students who were
\nunderemployed in technical fields. Today, a record 1,521 students attend
\nNTID; more than 1,300 are deaf or hard of hearing. Others are hearing
