This training will provide participants with the curriculum and tools
\nnecessary to teach deaf self advocacy. Advocacy, self advocacy, self
\ndetermination, self esteem, requesting interpreter services, understanding
\ninterpreter ethics, and locating resources are some of the concepts covered.<\/p>\n

Target Audience<\/p>\n

For individuals who are: 1) fluent in sign language 2) have an advanced
\nknowledge level of the Americans with Disabilities Act, and 3) have some
\nexperience as a trainer.<\/p>\n

San Antonio – June 1-7, 2011

This is a two day training, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM each day. The training is<\/strong>
\n limited to 30 participants and is free.<\/strong><\/p>\n

After registration is confirmed, the exact location will be provided.<\/p>\n

\nwas a collaborative effort to create a self advocacy training for
\ncommunication access services for persons who are deaf or hard of hearing.
\nThe project team consisted of the National Consortium of Interpreter
\nEducation Center (NCIEC), Communication Service for the Deaf (CSD), and T.S.
\nWriting Services, who collaborated with Digiterp Communications and D.E.
\nWest STudios.<\/p>\n
