South Congress repaving begins today<\/strong><\/p>\n

Project will close lanes, prohibit parking on thoroughfare for next six
\nweeks<\/p>\n

A project to resurface South Congress Avenue from Riverside Drive to Oltorf
\nStreet will come with lane closures and traffic delays running from today
\nthrough mid-July.<\/p>\n

The work will begin at the south end, moving in a first phase to Annie
\nStreet. Northbound lanes will typically be closed from 8:30 a.m. (near the
\nend of the morning rush period with heaviest inbound traffic) until 7 p.m. ,
\nand southbound lane closures will run from 7 a.m. until 4 p.m. , ending
\nbefore outbound traffic thickens. At least one lane will always be open in
\neach direction.<\/p>\n

The second phase, expected to last from about June 10 to June 27 , will run
\nfrom Annie Street to Nellie Street at the south end of the Texas School for
\nthe Deaf’s frontage on South Congress. The final phase, from about June 28
\nto July 15 , will cover the Nellie-to-Riverside interval, according to the
\ncity’s Public Works Department.<\/p>\n

The project, which follows extensive underground utility replacement work
\nthat left parts of South Congress uneven and pockmarked, involves removing
\nthree inches of pavement and replacing it with new asphalt.<\/p>\n

On-street parking in the posted work zones will be prohibited during
\nconstruction. The repaving will extend to side streets 30 to 70 feet from
\nintersections with South Congress.<\/p>\n
