\nThe Better Hearing Center of Austin its 2011 Partner of the Year.<\/p>\n
\nAssaf, Clinician at The Better Hearing Center of Austin, accepted the honor
\nfrom TSD Superintendent Claire Bugen in recognition of the Center\u2019s
\nscholarship program that has provided seventeen hearing instruments to deaf
\nand hard of hearing students over the last 3 years, with a total retail
\nvalue of over $40,000.00 – donations given directly to assist TSD students.<\/p>\n
\nprovide hearing instruments to students at the Texas School for the Deaf
\n(TSD). When Assaf first approached the school to get involved in the hearing
\naid program, he was surprised that no program already existed. \u201cI couldn\u2019t
\nbelieve that other dispensers were not doing this, not helping out,\u201d Assaf
\nsaid.<\/p>\n
\nAssaf knows, even if profoundly hard of hearing, a child benefits a great
\ndeal from a good, strong hearing instrument to detect sound. \u201cWhile a
\nhearing aid might not help a student understand words,\u201d he says, \u201cthe
\ninstrument can still provide valuable amplification so students can be more
\naware of their surroundings for basic peace of mind and safety.\u201d<\/p>\n
\ncontribute to the scholarship fund, the Center matches donations made
\nbetween $25-$50. When enough funds are available to purchase a hearing aid.
\nAssaf contacts TSD\u2019s audiologists who determine which students will benefit
\nthe most. A single instrument can retail for up to $3,000. The Better
\nHearing Center is able to purchase the hearing aids at their cost for a
\nsignificant savings, and the donated hearing aid becomes the student\u2019s
\nproperty.<\/p>\n
\nasset for students at TSD. Through their generosity, Assaf and the Center
\nare making personal amplification available to students who do not have
\ntheir own aids and may have previously had to rely on loaners-which are
\noften not perfectly fitted for them. Having hearing aids to call their own
\ngives them great pride and teaches them to be responsible and properly care
\nfor them.\u201d Not to mention the transformation that often happens when a
\nchild hears something for the very first time. Jones and Assaf agree that the
\nreal reward is seeing the\u00a0students react and excel with the new instruments.<\/p>\n

\nwho have benefited. \u201cAnd now,\u201d Assaf says, \u201cthey will see the TSD Partner of
\nthe Year Award prominently displayed too, which we are very proud to show
\noff.\u201d<\/p>\n

\nresponse from our clients about the scholarship program,\u201d says Assaf, \u201cso I
\nknow this is the right thing to do.\u201d The Center provides a full range of
\nhearing healthcare services from ear examinations and cleaning to speech
\nunderstanding assessments and hearing tests.<\/p>\n
