(see below)<\/p>\n<p><strong>CAMP SIGN-FUN AND ENJOY<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong> DATE: AUGUST 7-12, 2011<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong> AGES; 10-15 YEARS OLD.<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong> DEADLINE: JUNE 10, NOW EXTEND TO JUNE 24, 2011.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Office for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services<br \/>\nCamp SIGN 2011<br \/>\nCamper Application Information<\/p>\n<p>About Camp SIGN<\/p>\n<p>Thank you for your interest in Camp SIGN, a communication barrier-free<br \/>\nenvironment for students who are deaf or hard of hearing. The Camp SIGN<br \/>\nmission is to have all deaf or hard of hearing students from around the<br \/>\nstate participate in the program regardless of their communication mode. The<br \/>\nphilosophy of the camp is to provide an environment of acceptance and<br \/>\nencouragement. This program operates under Office for Deaf and Hard of<br \/>\nHearing  Services (DHHS) under DARS-DRS.<\/p>\n<p>Camp SIGN is for boys and girls between the ages of 10 and 15 who are deaf<br \/>\nor hard of hearing can benefit the outdoor training program.<br \/>\nCounselor-in-Training (CIT) is a program for developing leadership skills<br \/>\nand preparing boys and girls aged 16 and 17 to become future camp counselors<br \/>\nand leaders. Participants are former campers who meet the CIT program<br \/>\ncriteria established by the Camp SIGN committee.<\/p>\n<p>The camp staff is chosen to accomodate the variety of communication needs of<br \/>\nthe campers. Most of the counselors are professionals who work with<br \/>\nindividuals who are deaf or hard of hearing. Many of the counselors<br \/>\nthemselves are deaf or hard of hearing had served as excellent role models<br \/>\nfor the campers. Many counselors are former campers and CITs and return year<br \/>\nafter year to work with the program.<\/p>\n<p>Camp SIGN continues to use a wonderful campsite in the woodlands of Conroe,<br \/>\nTexas just 35 miles north of Houston. Camp Misty Meadows is owned and<br \/>\noperated by the Girl Scouts of San Jacinto. The date for camp this year is<br \/>\nSunday, August 7, 2011 &#8211; Friday, August 12, 2011.<\/p>\n<p>Registering your child<\/p>\n<p>Complete DARS3930, Camp SIGN Application for Camper, and return with a check<br \/>\nor money order for $35 to cover application fee required for each child on<br \/>\nor before June 10, 2011 as the deadline date. (This will reserve a space for<br \/>\nyour child.) These should be mailed to<\/p>\n<p>Camp SIGN, Office for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services<br \/>\nP.O. Box 12306<br \/>\nAustin, Texas 78711<\/p>\n<p>Once the application is processed, DHHS will send out a pre-acceptance<br \/>\nletter by June 13, 2011. The letter indicates the total cost for your child<br \/>\nto attend. At that time, you will also receive the required medical and<br \/>\nrelease forms. Please note that a doctor must examine your child and sign<br \/>\nthe medical form. No child will be admitted without the required paperwork.<\/p>\n<p>The cost of the medical examination and transportation of the child to and<br \/>\nfrom Camp SIGN are the responsibility of the parent or guardian.<\/p>\n<p>Camp SIGN depends on donations to keep the program running. Donations do not<br \/>\ncover the entire cost of the camp. Parents or guardians will be asked to<br \/>\nfill out income information located on the application form to determine the<br \/>\ncost for their child. There are two separate fees: application fee and camp<br \/>\nfee. The total cost ranges from  $35 to $235 (both application and camp<br \/>\nfees) depending on the income of the parent(s) or guardian(s). Medical exams<br \/>\nand transportation are not included in this price.<\/p>\n<p>Tax deductible gifts and grants may be sent to Camp SIGN, c\/o Office for<br \/>\nDeaf and Hard of Hearing Services, P.O. Box 12306; Austin, Texas 78711.
