This workshop will focus on a<br \/>\nsystematic effort to train interpreters for this unique aspect of their role<br \/>\nin court. This advanced workshop will provide interpreters with practical<br \/>\nexperience in discussing a model of interpretation analysis, use of that<br \/>\nmodel to analyze interpreter legal texts and bring substantive errors to the<br \/>\nattention of the court. They will learn the additional duties as expert<br \/>\nwitnesses and explore case law that has attempted to define this function of<br \/>\nthe counsel-table interpreter.<\/p>\n<p>INTERPRETING THE GUILTY PLEA AND OTHER COMMON LEGAL TEXTS<\/p>\n<p>September 24, 2011,  9 am &#8211; 4 pm<\/p>\n<p>This training will include a discussion of the history of the plea, its<br \/>\nconstitutional purpose, an analysis of its discourse, application of the<br \/>\ndiscussion to interpretation, hands on interpretation and feedback. It will<br \/>\nbe presented in ASL so this is a good opportunity to participate in a high<br \/>\nlevel discussion in ASL regarding complex legal topics.<\/p>\n<p>**********************************************************************<\/p>\n<p>Training held at Travis County Health and Human Services<br \/>\n100 N IH35<br \/>\nAustin, Texas 78701<br \/>\nClass is limited to 30 persons<\/p>\n<p>*****************************<\/p>\n<p>EARLY BIRD (by August 1): $125.00 for Thursday and Friday. $100.00 for<br \/>\nSaturday only.
