Position Information<\/p>\n

Location – Multiple Locations
\nHours – Afternoon and Evenings
\nPosition Focus – ASL Level 1 and 2
\nSalary – Salary is assigned according to the Adjunct Faculty Salary Scale
\nFLSA Status – Exempt
\nCriminal Background Check – Pre-employment criminal background checks are
\nrequired for all Staff and Faculty positions. Pre-employment urinalyses drug
\nscreens are also required for all top candidates considered for positions in
\nACC’s College Police department.<\/p>\n

Job Purpose<\/p>\n

To instruct students in American Sign Language courses in accordance with
\nCollege policies and procedures.<\/p>\n

Reports To Department Chair, Human Services<\/p>\n

Description of Duties and Tasks<\/p>\n

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties
\nmay be assigned.<\/p>\n

1. Instructs students in courses in the American Sign Language discipline.
\nProvides learning activities that stimulate student involvement and
\nencourage critical thinking.
\n2. Maintains regular office hours to assist students; responds to students’
\nemails and voice mails in a timely fashion; performs accurate assessment of
\nstudent performance.
\n2. Maintains professional competencies in the subject area and currency in
\ninstructional methodologies through professional associations and
\nprofessional development.
\n4. May perform other related tasks as assigned by the Department Chair,
\nDean, and\/or Executive Vice President.<\/p>\n

Knowledge<\/p>\n

* Must possess required knowledge and be able to explain and demonstrate,
\nwith or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of
\nthe job can be performed.<\/p>\n

Required<\/p>\n

* Extensive knowledge of American Sign Language linguistics, deaf history
\nand deaf culture.
\n* Knowledge of effective instructional techniques and innovative modes of
\ncourse delivery adaptable to a variety of learning styles.
\n* Must be knowledgeable about and capable of using current technologies in
\nthe classroom and to convey online course content.
\n* Understanding the comprehensive mission and philosophy of community
\ncolleges.
\n* Sensitive issues relating to a diverse student body.
\n* Principles and practices associated with Servant-Leadership.
\n* Working cooperatively with colleagues.<\/p>\n

Preferred<\/p>\n

* Experience with the Signing Naturally curriculum.<\/p>\n

Skills<\/p>\n

Must possess required skills and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or

\nincluding possible multiple campus locations that may vary by semester.

Computer Skills<\/p>\n

Required<\/p>\n

* Demonstrated proficiency using computer applications, online resources,
\nand other technologies for the classroom and online learning as well as to
\ndevelop and build course content and perform administrative duties (posting
\noffice hours, syllabi, grades, etc.).<\/p>\n

Preferred<\/p>\n

* Knowledge of MAC and PC, advanced knowledge of Power Point, experience
\nwith Blackboard.<\/p>\n

Physical Requirements<\/p>\n

* Ability to communicate effectively with students and colleagues.
\n* Work is routinely performed in a classroom or office setting.<\/p>\n

Work Experience<\/p>\n

Preferred<\/p>\n

* Experience teaching at a community college or university.<\/p>\n

Education<\/p>\n

Required<\/p>\n

* Master’s degree or above in American Sign Language; or Master’s degree or
\nabove and 18 hours in American Sign Language, Deaf Studies, and\/or ASL
\nlinguistics-related coursework.
\nPreferred<\/p>\n

* Master’s degree or PhD in American Sign Language.<\/p>\n

Required<\/p>\n

* This is a Security Sensitive position. Pre-Employment Criminal History
\nChecks are required. Official transcripts are required. Reliable
\ntransportation may be required for teaching in multiple campus locations.<\/p>\n

Applicants who have degrees earned from educational institutions located
