{"id":15315,"date":"2011-08-08T01:11:34","date_gmt":"2011-08-08T06:11:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/deafnetwork.com\/wordpress\/?p=15315"},"modified":"2011-08-08T01:36:36","modified_gmt":"2011-08-08T06:36:36","slug":"free-pepnet-webcast-81011","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/deafnetwork.com\/wordpress\/blog\/2011\/08\/08\/free-pepnet-webcast-81011\/","title":{"rendered":"Free PEPNet Webcast &#8211; 8\/10\/11"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Free PEPNet Webcast &#8211; 8\/10\/11<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Reflections on Past, Present, and Future Challenges in Educating and<br \/>\nRehabilitating \u201cAt-Risk\u201d Individuals who are Deaf<\/p>\n<p>The Postsecondary Education Programs Network (PEPNet) will provide a free<br \/>\nwebcast \u201cReflections on Past, Present, and Future Challenges in Educating<br \/>\nand Rehabilitating \u201cAt-Risk\u201d Individuals who are Deaf&#8221; on Wednesday, August<br \/>\n10, 2011 from 2:00 \u2013 4:00 pm EDT.<\/p>\n<p>About the Webcast:<\/p>\n<p>This webcast is the fourth of a series of presentations on addressing the<br \/>\nneeds of individuals who are deaf and low functioning (LFD). This<br \/>\npresentation provides a general overview on how different hearing loss<br \/>\npopulations, including Deaf, hard of hearing, late-deafened, and the<br \/>\nDeaf-Blind, adapt and respond to life challenges in our society. The<br \/>\naudience will be introduced to different educational and rehabilitation<br \/>\npractices, studies, programs, and\/or publications since the early 1960\u2019s.<br \/>\nCurrent challenges in serving this population, primarily those who are<br \/>\nconsidered to be \u201cat-risk\u201d or have multiple daily life issues that affect<br \/>\ntheir ability to sustain independence, seek meaningful careers, or maintain<br \/>\nstability in their jobs, will be discussed. Further, the presenter will<br \/>\naddress how we as parents, educators, rehabilitation service providers, and<br \/>\nadvocates can ensure that this population continues to be served effectively<br \/>\nin spite of fewer resources and opportunities as a result of loss of funds<br \/>\nat federal and state levels.<\/p>\n<p>About the Presenter:<br \/>\nCecil Flex Bradley, VR Administrator, works for the Division of Vocational<br \/>\nRehabilitation (VR), a federal-state program within Florida Department of<br \/>\nEducation (FLDOE). Cecil coordinates statewide VR services to consumers with<br \/>\nhearing loss. He serves as VR liaison to Division of Blind Services, Florida<br \/>\nSchool for the Deaf and the Blind, and the Brain and Spinal Cord Injury<br \/>\nProgram (Department of Health). Cecil also serves on the Florida<br \/>\nCoordinating Council for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing in representing FLDOE.<br \/>\nIn addition, he serves on the Board of Directors in overseeing Florida<br \/>\nTelecommunications Relay, Inc. Further, Cecil serves as adjunct faculty at<br \/>\nValdosta State University and the University of Tennessee (UT). He has<br \/>\ncoordinated and instructed the UT\u2019s Summer Orientation to Deafness Program<br \/>\nbetween 2007 and 2010. Cecil has a PhD in Rehabilitation Counseling from<br \/>\nFlorida State University, an MA from New York University, and a BA from<br \/>\nGallaudet University. He is both a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC)<br \/>\nand a Certified Public Manager (CPM).<\/p>\n<p>Registration:<br \/>\nThere is no charge for this webcast, but pre-registration by Friday August<br \/>\n5, 2011 is recommended.
