Interpreter Volunteer Opportunity @ Summit High School – Mansfield<\/strong><\/p>\n

Hello!<\/p>\n

My name is Lyndsey Simmons , and I am one of the theatre directors at Summit
\nHigh School.<\/p>\n

The purpose of this\u00a0announcement\u00a0is that we are doing Roger Miller’s Big
\nRiver for our Winter Musical on January 26-29. As the musical has had a rich
\nhistory of being done by deaf actors, and we thought it would be a
\nwonderful, unique experience for our student actors to be shadowed by
\ninterpreters. Thus, we are looking for volunteers!<\/p>\n

We would need between 8-12 interpreters, ideally.<\/p>\n

The commitment would be as follows: I would send a script with assigned
\ncharacters to all interpreters for them to become familiar with. I would
\noffer 3 days of rehearsal with full run throughs for “working” observation,
\nso that interpreters can become familiar with actors’ movement, etc. There
\nwill be three long rehearsals during our “tech week” for interpreters to
\nsmooth out their onstage interpreting, and then our four shows. We will, of
\ncourse, be flexible.<\/p>\n

It is our hope to set up a donation station for Destination Imagination as
\npart of our “show experience.”<\/p>\n

I would love to talk with you about the possibility of working with student
\ninterpreters who might be interested in serving as part of this production,
\nand when we might have a clear commitment from any volunteers!<\/p>\n
