This is a reminder for all
to send in their applications as soon as possible for the first CPA for our
community. We realize that 12-weeks is a significant commitment and an
excellent opportunity as recognized by the invitations from Deputy Chief
Rhonda Robertson and Major Kenneth Flynn:

The Fort Worth Police Department invites you to attend the Citizen Police
Academy that begins October 4, 2011. We recognize that everyone is busy, and
agreeing to attend the twelve-week course is a significant commitment of
your time. However, we believe this opportunity to gain knowledge about your
police department will be worth the investment. We hope to see you there.

Deputy Chief Rhonda Robertson
Fort Worth Police Department

The Fort Worth Police Department’s Citizens Police Academy (CPA) is an
excellent opportunity for the citizens of Fort Worth to learn, in detail,
how and why the police department functions as it does. I am excited that
our police department is making the Citizens Police Academy available to the
Deaf and Hard of Hearing Community. The CPA is not a new program, but we
will be presenting it in new ways and will be learning new skills in the
process. The Fort Worth Police Training Division staff and I are committed
to the success of this program and look forward to an enjoyable shared
learning experience.

Major Kenneth Flynn
Fort Worth Police Department

The CPA for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing was announced during the Community
Forum held Tuesday, June 21, 2011. Also, during the Forum, Fort Worth
Police Chief Jeffrey Halstead shared his personal story:

Chief Halstead spoke of his mother, who had passed away August 2010. He
explained that she had been assisted by hearing aids for many years. While
Chief Halstead may not have fully realized all the challenges his mother
faced, he is learning much from Fort Worth’s deaf and hard of hearing
community and those of you, who have participated with us from other cities.

So, believe this is real.
