Here are questions for you all.<\/p>\n<p>1) Has your request for an accommodation (i.e., interpreter) to ensure<br \/>\neffective communication been denied by your family doctor or local hospital?<br \/>\n2) For a municipal court, have interpreters or other accommodation routinely<br \/>\nbeen denied? What about jail?<br \/>\n3) Do you have any family members, friends or co-workers who recently<br \/>\nexperienced hearing loss? If so, do they need resources on assistive<br \/>\ntechnology?<br \/>\n4) Do you ever need assistance on educating your employer (boss) about your<br \/>\ndisability or communication needs? (For an example, there was no<br \/>\ninterpreter or other accommodation for a staff meeting or training)<\/p>\n<p>If you answered \u201cYes\u201d to at least one of the above questions, come to our<br \/>\ntraining to find out and to have fun learning. Don\u2019t forget to invite your<br \/>\nfamily members, friends, or co-workers who needed the resources. The<br \/>\ntraining would empower you to learn how to self-advocate as a deaf\/hard of<br \/>\nhearing individual and\/or to become aware with assistive technology. He<br \/>\nworks with various agencies and service providers regarding their access<br \/>\nobligations under the Americans with Disabilities Act and the Rehabilitation<br \/>\nAct. His training will empower deaf or hard of hearing individuals with<br \/>\nknowledge of their civil rights and how to self-advocate.<\/p>\n<p>Olivia Bills, a hard of hearing individual, serves as the Hearing Loss<br \/>\nResource Specialist 7A, through CSD of Texas, for a program funded by Texas<br \/>\nDARS (Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services) \u2013 Office for Deaf<br \/>\nand Hard of Hearing Services. She provides services, equipment demo\u2019s,<br \/>\npresentations, information, resources, referrals, and awareness on hearing<br \/>\nloss issues.<\/p>\n<p>Accommodations for participants such as real time captioning (C.A.R.T.) or<br \/>\nsign to voice interpreter services must be requested by Wednesday, September<br \/>\n28, 2011 by 5:00pm.
