Serves as Liaison between the Mayor, City<br \/>\nCouncil, City Departments and other public and private entities on matters<br \/>\npertaining to people with disabilities in the greater Houston Metropolitan<br \/>\nArea. Provides technical advice and professional administrative support for<br \/>\ninitiatives of the Houston Commission on Disabilities. Assists in<br \/>\ndeveloping, coordinating and formulating policies and legislation relating<br \/>\nto all people with disabilities, and assists in overseeing the<br \/>\nimplementation of programs consistent with such policies and legislation.<br \/>\nActs as a public advocate for the rights and needs of all people with<br \/>\ndisabilities; assists in coordination of compliance with all federal, state<br \/>\nand city laws concerning people with disabilities. Maintains demographic and<br \/>\nstatistical data regarding people with disabilities. Plans and implements<br \/>\nspecial projects as needed or assigned. Provides information and assists in<br \/>\nthe planning and prioritizing of allocations for enhancing services and<br \/>\nfacilities for people with disabilities. Provides day to day coordination<br \/>\nand\/or oversight for the Aging and Disabilities Resource Center.<\/p>\n<p>WORKING CONDITIONS<br \/>\nThe position is physically comfortable, the individual has discretion about<br \/>\nwalking, standing, etc.<\/p>\n<p>MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS<\/p>\n<p>MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS<br \/>\nRequires a Bachelor&#8217;s Degree in Business<br \/>\nAdministration, Accounting, Finance or a closely related field to activities<br \/>\nof the division.<\/p>\n<p>MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS<br \/>\nSeven (7) years of progressive professional experience closely related to<br \/>\nthe activities of the division are required with at least 3 in a supervisory<br \/>\ncapacity. A Masters Degree in Business Administration, Public Administration<br \/>\nor a field closely related to the activities of the division may be<br \/>\nsubstituted for two years of experience. Directly related professional<br \/>\nexperience may be substituted for the education requirement on a year for<br \/>\nyear basis.<\/p>\n<p>MINIMUM LICENSE REQUIREMENTS<br \/>\nNone<\/p>\n<p>PREFERENCES<\/p>\n<p>Preference will be given to applicants with knowledge and experience in<br \/>\ninterpreting the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Ability to interact<br \/>\nwith high profile political and civic leaders in the community.
