DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES\/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
\nPlans, organizes and directs the operations and administration of the
\nMayor’s Office for People with Disabilities, in accordance with applicable
\nCity of Houston Ordinances. Serves as Liaison between the Mayor, City
\nCouncil, City Departments and other public and private entities on matters
\npertaining to people with disabilities in the greater Houston Metropolitan
\nArea. Provides technical advice and professional administrative support for
\ninitiatives of the Houston Commission on Disabilities. Assists in
\ndeveloping, coordinating and formulating policies and legislation relating
\nto all people with disabilities, and assists in overseeing the
\nimplementation of programs consistent with such policies and legislation.
\nActs as a public advocate for the rights and needs of all people with
\ndisabilities; assists in coordination of compliance with all federal, state
\nand city laws concerning people with disabilities. Maintains demographic and
\nstatistical data regarding people with disabilities. Plans and implements
\nspecial projects as needed or assigned. Provides information and assists in
\nthe planning and prioritizing of allocations for enhancing services and
\nfacilities for people with disabilities. Provides day to day coordination
\nand\/or oversight for the Aging and Disabilities Resource Center.<\/p>\n

WORKING CONDITIONS
\nThe position is physically comfortable, the individual has discretion about
\nwalking, standing, etc.<\/p>\n

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS<\/p>\n

MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
\nRequires a Bachelor’s Degree in Business
\nAdministration, Accounting, Finance or a closely related field to activities
\nof the division.<\/p>\n

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
\nSeven (7) years of progressive professional experience closely related to
\nthe activities of the division are required with at least 3 in a supervisory
\ncapacity. A Masters Degree in Business Administration, Public Administration
\nor a field closely related to the activities of the division may be
\nsubstituted for two years of experience. Directly related professional
\nexperience may be substituted for the education requirement on a year for
\nyear basis.<\/p>\n

MINIMUM LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
\nNone<\/p>\n

PREFERENCES<\/p>\n

Preference will be given to applicants with knowledge and experience in
\ninterpreting the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Ability to interact
\nwith high profile political and civic leaders in the community. Extensive
\nleadership and program monitoring skills with the ability to effectively
\npresent and advocate for the disabled population in the greater Houston
\nMetropolitan Area.<\/p>\n

\ncomplete a computer skills assessment.<\/p>\n
