In January of this year DARS\/DHHS\/BEI<br \/>\npartnered with the National Center for Interpretation Testing, Research and<br \/>\nPolicy (NCITRP) University of Arizona, to draft and submit a grant funding<br \/>\nproposal to the U.S. Department of Education, entitled DEAF INTERPRETER<br \/>\nCERTIFICATION PROJECT: CERTIFYING INTERMEDIARY INTERPRETERS WHO ARE DEAF TO<br \/>\nENSURE EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION FOR THE DEAF, HARD OF HEARING AND DEAFBLIND.<br \/>\nWe were recently notified that this project was selected for funding<br \/>\nwhich will be over a three year period.<\/p>\n<p>This will be a third test development project in recent years by David<br \/>\nMyers and the DHHS\/BEI team that includes the BEI Advisory Committee, in<br \/>\npartnership with the NCITRP, University of Arizona., which specializes in<br \/>\ntest development for languages and interpreting. The BEI certification test<br \/>\ndevelopment and the Hispanic trilingual certification test development<br \/>\nprojects provided state of the art tests that are valid and reliable. The<br \/>\ncurrent deaf intermediary interpreter test development project is in<br \/>\nresponse to deaf community input regarding the BEI\u2019s deaf intermediary tests<br \/>\nbeing outdated and of deteriorated quality.
