Please join us for a screening of Deaf Jam part of the Community Cinema
\nseries in partnership with KLRU-TV. National poetry slams for youth have
\nbeen gaining momentum but few, if any, deaf teens have ever been included in
\nthese contests. In Deaf Jam a group of New York City deaf teens reveal their
\npassions, frustrations, and senses of humor as they discover American Sign
\nLanguage poetry and eventually step into the world of the youth poetry slams
\nwith their hearing peers. After the screening, lively discussions bring
\ncitizens and organizations together to encourage dialogue and action around
\nimportant and timely social issues. Light refreshments provided.<\/p>\n
