The White House recently<br \/>\npublished an \u201cinfographic\u201d (see link below) describing the efforts to bring<br \/>\ndiversity to the bench. The infographic discusses efforts to nominate<br \/>\nAfrican Americans, Latinos, Asian-Americans, Native Americans, women, and<br \/>\nopenly gay judges, but does not mention people with disabilities.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/blog\/2011\/08\/18\/infographic-record-judicial-diversity-record-judicial-delays\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/blog\/2011\/08\/18\/infographic-record-judicial-diversity-record-judicial-delays<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The makeup of the federal judiciary is extremely important to the rights of<br \/>\nindividuals with disabilities, as it is to other civil rights. Too often,<br \/>\ncourt decisions have stripped individuals with disabilities of the rights<br \/>\nthat afford them equal opportunities in their workplaces and communities.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The NAD is not aware of any deaf or hard of hearing federal judges who use<br \/>\nsign language. With the increasing number of deaf and hard of hearing<br \/>\nattorneys in the United States, over 300 today, we want to see a signing<br \/>\njudge appointed to Federal court in our lifetime,&#8221;
