Workshop\/Course Description:<\/p>\n

Morning Session: Maintaining role while providing effective cultural
\nmediation can be a nerve-wracking task. How do I know if this is in my
\npurview or if I\u2019m stepping outside the boundaries of the Code of
\nProfessional Conduct? During this session, participants will explore how to
\napproach the \u201cgray area\u201d that exists when mediating the two cultures in
\ninterpreters work. An analysis of the cultural disparities will be performed
\nin conjunction with a look at common mistakes made by interpreters while
\nnavigating cultures. The goal of this workshop is to help participants avoid
\nmaking decisions based on intuition alone. Instead, through group discussion
\nand case studies, attendees will develop an approach to mediating culture
\nthat supports the full interaction and independence of the consumer.<\/p>\n

Afternoon Session: This is an interactive and dynamic workshop. Focus will
\nbe on the ethical considerations that must be taken into account when
\nconsidering the specialty of medical interpreting. Practical applications
\nof national standards of practice will be explored, and attendees will
\nparticipate in dynamic discussions in order to troubleshoot ethical
\nchallenges in real-world interpreting scenarios.<\/p>\n
