Provides for<br \/>\nthe development of jobs for deaf and hard of hearing individuals in<br \/>\nconjunction with the Program Manager. Develops and maintains a network of<br \/>\nemployers to hire deaf and hard of hearing individuals Conducts job search<br \/>\nworkshops focused on application\/resume completion, interviewing skills,<br \/>\non-the-job communication and job retention. Assists with interpreting for<br \/>\nthe deaf. Works cooperatively with other members of Deaf Services staff to<br \/>\nmaximize client services.<\/p>\n<p>PROGRAM: Deaf Services<\/p>\n<p>SALARY: Grade III \u2013 Full Time<\/p>\n<p>JOB REQUIREMENTS:<\/p>\n<p>Education:<\/p>\n<p>* High School or GED required, college or some college preferred. Fluent in<br \/>\nAmerican Sign Language.<\/p>\n<p>Experience:<\/p>\n<p>* Experience with deaf and hard of hearing clients. Areas of preferred<br \/>\nexperience include job placement, social work, vocational rehabilitation,<br \/>\ninterpreting, or teaching.<\/p>\n<p>Skills:<\/p>\n<p>* Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work as a highly cooperative<br \/>\nmember of a team to develop and accomplish agency and departmental goals.<\/p>\n<p>* Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) with ability to interpret for both<br \/>\ndeaf and hearing persons.<\/p>\n<p>* Excellent knowledge of deafness and deaf culture.<\/p>\n<p>* Knowledge of Houston Job market and future employment trends.<\/p>\n<p>* Extremely professional presentation and ability interface easily with<br \/>\nhiring authorities.<\/p>\n<p>* Ability to work with public and private employers and other social service<br \/>\nagencies.<\/p>\n<p>* Excellent writing skills.<\/p>\n<p>* Ability to develop jobs in the private sector.<\/p>\n<p>* Ability to use equipment that assists deaf and hard of hearing individuals<br \/>\nsuch as a videophones, loops, and to use services that serve the deaf such<br \/>\nas Video Relay Services.<\/p>\n<p>* Operation and availability of a motor vehicle.<\/p>\n<p>DUTIES:<\/p>\n<p>* Provide comprehensive case management services to ensure that clients are<br \/>\nproperly prepared to engage in a successful job search.<\/p>\n<p>* Develop and implement employment plan for each client and to that end, set<br \/>\nrealistic goals, action steps, and time frames for their successful<br \/>\ncompletion.<\/p>\n<p>* Provide for supportive services to enhance the clients\u2019 ability to get a<br \/>\njob (haircuts, referral for interviewing outfits, bus tokens for<br \/>\ntransportation to interviews, etc.).<\/p>\n<p>* Conduct job search skills workshops in ASL.<\/p>\n<p>* Solicit job orders and match clients to appropriate job openings.<\/p>\n<p>* Perform follow-up to determine and document clients\u2019 employment status.<br \/>\nMaintain contact with client and employer for 90 days to assist with and<br \/>\ndocument job maintenance.<\/p>\n<p>* Work with DARS Counselors and send monthly reports on their clients\u2019<br \/>\nprogress.<\/p>\n<p>* Negotiate job offers with employers.<\/p>\n<p>* Provide interpreter services for clients at job interviews<\/p>\n<p>* Other duties as assigned.<\/p>\n<p>Supervisor: Manager, Deaf Services<\/p>\n<p>Qualified applicants should complete an agency application, attach updated<br \/>\nresume with professional references and forward to Kathy Walters, Manager at<br \/>\nKathy.walters@careerandrecovery.org<\/p>\n<p>Website: <a href=\"http:\/\/careerandrecovery.org\/\">http:\/\/careerandrecovery.org\/<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Employment Specialist\/Interpreter position in Houston JOB DESCRIPTION TITLE: Employment Specialist \/ Interpreter SUMMARY: Provides full employment service case management to deaf\/hard of hearing clients in assisting with job placement and retention.
