Here are questions for you all.<\/p>\n<p>1) Has your request for an accommodation (i.e., interpreter) to ensure<br \/>\neffective communication been denied by your family doctor or local hospital?<\/p>\n<p>2) For a municipal court, have interpreters or other accommodation routinely<br \/>\nbeen denied? What about jail?<\/p>\n<p>3) Do you ever need assistance on educating your employer (boss) about your<br \/>\ndisability or communication needs? (For an example, there was no<br \/>\ninterpreter or other accommodation for a staff meeting or training)<\/p>\n<p>If you answered \u201cYes\u201d to at least one of the above questions, come to our<br \/>\ntraining to find out and to have fun learning. Don\u2019t forget to invite your<br \/>\nfamily members, friends, or co-workers who needed the resources. The<br \/>\ntraining would empower you to learn how to self-advocate as a deaf\/hard of<br \/>\nhearing individual. The training is scheduled and located at:<\/p>\n<p>Tuesday, November 29, 2011<\/p>\n<p>6:00pm to 7:30pm<\/p>\n<p>San Marcos Activity Center<br \/>\n501 East Hopkins<br \/>\nSan Marcos, TX 78666<\/p>\n<p>Refreshments will be provided by San Marcos Interpreting Services.<\/p>\n<p>The Speakers-<\/p>\n<p>Brian Determan, an ASL-native deaf individual, serves as the Deafness<br \/>\nResource Specialist 7A, through Communication Axess Ability Group, for a<br \/>\nprogram funded by Texas DARS (Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative<br \/>\nServices) \u2013 Office for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services. He works with<br \/>\nvarious agencies and service providers regarding their access obligations<br \/>\nunder the Americans with Disabilities Act and the Rehabilitation Act.
