SafePlace \u2013 Deaf Services staff is very pleased to announce that we recently
\ndeveloped volunteer program for Deaf\/HH community in Austin, Texas. Please
\nread below for six volunteer positions that we are seeking for. Currently,
\nwe are in a need for a filmmaker and editor to start our projects soon.
\nPlease feel free to pass this information along to anyone that might be
\ninterested in filming or editing for our program.<\/p>\n

If you are interested in applying for any volunteer positions, please email
\nNida Din at NDin@SafePlace.org for an application. To give you a fair
\nwarning, we require all volunteers to go through background check for
\nsecurity purposes, and the one-time fee is 10 dollars. This is the only time
\nwe expect our volunteers to pay.<\/p>\n

DEAF SERVICES \u2013 PUBLIC AWARENESS EVENTS VOLUNTEER<\/p>\n

Represent SafePlace \u2013 Deaf Services at Deaf events (i.e., Texas School for
\nthe Deaf Homecoming Fair, Deaf Nation Expo, etc.) and provide basic
\ninformation about Deaf Services and\/or educate about sexual and domestic
\nviolence.<\/p>\n

Qualifications:
\nFriendly, flexible personality.
\nMust be fluent in ASL.
\nParticipation in SafePlace \u2013 Deaf Services training.<\/p>\n

Timeframe:
\nRequest upon event opportunities.<\/p>\n

Supervisor:
\nDeaf Services Outreach\/Educator

DEAF SERVICES \u2013 ACTOR\/ACTRESS VOLUNTEER<\/p>\n

Perform in film(s) related to sexual and\/or domestic violence in ASL to
\nprovide full access to communication and information about sexual and
\ndomestic violence to the Deaf and Hard of Hearing communities.<\/p>\n

Qualifications:
\nFriendly, flexible personality.
\nMust be fluent in ASL.
\nParticipation in SafePlace \u2013 Deaf Services training.
\nExperience in acting preferred, but not required.<\/p>\n

Timeframe:
\nRequest upon film opportunities.<\/p>\n

Supervisor:
\nDeaf Services Outreach\/Educator

DEAF SERVICES \u2013 FILM EDITOR VOLUNTEER<\/p>\n

Edit films, add subtitles, and upload to youtube channel(s) and\/or Facebook.
\nFilms are related to sexual and\/or domestic violence in ASL to provide full
\naccess to communication and information about sexual and domestic violence
\nto the Deaf and Hard of Hearing communities.<\/p>\n

Qualifications:
\nFriendly, flexible personality.
\nMust be fluent in ASL.
\nParticipation in SafePlace \u2013 Deaf Services training.
\nMust use your own equipment (i.e., computer\/laptop, software program
\ninstalled, etc.) to complete tasks.
\nBe able to work closely and communicate efficiently with filmmaker volunteer
\nand Deaf Services Advocate\/Educator.
\nExperience in editing preferred, but not required.<\/p>\n

Timeframe:
\nRequest upon film opportunities.<\/p>\n

DEAF SERVICES \u2013 FILMMAKER VOLUNTEER<\/p>\n

Create scripts, recruit actors\/actresses, direct, and film the scenes. Films
\nare related to sexual and\/or domestic violence in ASL to provide full access
\nto communication and information about sexual and domestic violence to the
\nDeaf and Hard of Hearing community.<\/p>\n

Qualifications:
\nFriendly, flexible personality.
\nMust be fluent in ASL.
\nParticipation in SafePlace \u2013 Deaf Services training.
\nMust use your own equipment (video camera, lighting equipments, tripod,
\netc.) to complete tasks.
\nBe able to work closely and communicate efficiently with editor volunteer,
\nactors\/actresses, and Deaf Services Advocate\/Educator.
\nExperience in filming preferred, but not required.<\/p>\n

Help to set up the room, prep materials, prep snacks\/food, greet attendees,
\nrecruit\/promote events, clean up after the events, and other tasks that need
\nto be completed.<\/p>\n

Qualifications:
\nFriendly, flexible personality.
\nExcellent organization skills.
\nWork well under time pressure.
\nMust be fluent in ASL.
\nParticipation in SafePlace \u2013 Deaf Services training.<\/p>\n

DEAF SERVICES \u2013 SURVIVOR SPEAKER<\/p>\n

Share your story (without disclosing the specific details) at Deaf Services
\nevents and\/or in films. The purpose of sharing your story is to educate
\nDeaf\/HH communities about sexual and domestic violence and show the public
\nthat it does happen in the Deaf\/HH communities. Your story will also help
\nother Deaf\/HH survivors to be aware that they are not alone.<\/p>\n

Qualifications:
\nFriendly, flexible personality.
\nMust be fluent in ASL.
\nMust be fully recovered and comfortable to share your story.
\nPrepare your story with Deaf Services Outreach\/Educator in advance
\n(optional).
\nParticipation in SafePlace \u2013 Deaf Services training.<\/p>\n
