Taking the First Steps to Disaster Preparedness (AWR-186).<\/p>\n

Community Emergency Preparedness Information Network (CEPIN) continues to
\noffer its\u2019 first course, an eight-hour DHS-certified direct delivery
\nprogram, that provides emergency responders with the tools needed to address
\nthe emergency and disaster preparedness needs of the deaf, hard of hearing
\nand deaf-blind communities. The course also gives individuals who are deaf,
\nhard of hearing and deaf-blind a better understanding of the roles and
\nresponsibilities of emergency responders during emergencies and disasters.

The course, “AWR 186 Emergency Responders and the Deaf and Hard of Hearing
\nCommunity,” is designed to provide deaf and hard of hearing (including deaf,
\ndeaf-blind, hard of hearing, late-deafened and other individuals with
\nhearing loss) and emergency responders with the basic skills they need to
\ncommunicate with each other in the event of emergencies such as terrorist
\nattacks and natural and biological disasters. The course will also instruct
\nparticipants how to respond to a variety of emergency situations. Because
\nthis course is geared toward an entry-level audience and its framework is
\none of problem solving and small-group work, the ideal participant to
\ninstructor ratio is 20:1.<\/p>\n
