{"id":17070,"date":"2011-12-27T21:56:30","date_gmt":"2011-12-28T02:56:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/deafnetwork.com\/wordpress\/?p=17070"},"modified":"2011-12-27T22:36:56","modified_gmt":"2011-12-28T03:36:56","slug":"ntids-digital-arts-and-writing-contests","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/deafnetwork.com\/wordpress\/blog\/2011\/12\/27\/ntids-digital-arts-and-writing-contests\/","title":{"rendered":"NTID&#8217;s Digital Arts and Writing Contests"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>NTID&#8217;s Digital Arts and Writing Contests<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>National Writing and Arts Competitions Announced For Deaf and<br \/>\nHard-of-Hearing Students<\/p>\n<p>(Dec. 16, 2011) \u2013 Deaf and hard-of-hearing high school students are<br \/>\nencouraged to enter two creative competitions for cash prizes offered by<br \/>\nRochester Institute of Technology.<\/p>\n<p>The first contest is the RIT Digital Arts, Film and Animation Competition<br \/>\nfor Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing Students. Qualified students in 9th through<br \/>\n12th grades may submit up to two entries (one per category) from the<br \/>\nfollowing: Web design, graphic media, film, 3-D animation, interactive media<br \/>\nand photo illustration.<\/p>\n<p>To qualify, students must submit the following by postal mail: an entry<br \/>\nform; a 150- to 300-word descriptive essay about their work; and the artwork<br \/>\nitself on CD or DVD.<\/p>\n<p>Winners will receive cash prizes at an awards ceremony in the spring and<br \/>\nhave their winning work exhibited in the Dyer Arts Center on the RIT campus.<br \/>\nFor an entry form or more information, visit<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.rit.edu\/NTID\/ArtsNR\" target=\"_blank\"> http:\/\/www.rit.edu\/NTID\/ArtsNR<\/a> . The deadline to register is January 15,<br \/>\n2012.<\/p>\n<p>The second competition is RIT\u2019s SpiRIT Writing Contest for deaf or hard of<br \/>\nhearing students in the 10th, 11th or 12th grade. Students can win their<br \/>\nchoice of a scholarship and travel expenses to the Explore Your Future<br \/>\nprogram at RIT\u2019s National Technical Institute for the Deaf, or a $500 cash<br \/>\nprize.<\/p>\n<p>EYF is a six-day summer career exploration program for deaf and<br \/>\nhard-of-hearing students that gives them the opportunity to sample different<br \/>\ncareers as well as college life.<\/p>\n<p>Complete contest guidelines and entry information are available at<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.rit.edu\/NTID\/WritingContestNR\" target=\"_blank\"> http:\/\/www.rit.edu\/NTID\/WritingContestNR<\/a> . RIT enrolls 17,000 full- and part-time students in more<br \/>\nthan 200 career-oriented and professional programs, and its cooperative<br \/>\neducation program is one of the oldest and largest in the nation.<\/p>\n<p>NTID, one of nine colleges of RIT, was established by Congress in 1965 to<br \/>\nprovide college opportunities for deaf and hard-of-hearing students who were<br \/>\nunderemployed in technical fields. Today, a record 1,547 students attend<br \/>\nNTID; more than 1,350 are deaf or hard of hearing. Others are hearing<br \/>\nstudents enrolled in interpreting or deaf education programs.
