\nand cheerleading tournament consisting of more than 300 boys and girls teams

“We are extremely excited to sponsor this year’s Clerc Classic,” said
\nDirector of Large Accounts Sam Costner. “The dedication, determination,
\ndrive and spirit of these students are an inspiration to Purple and the deaf

The Clerc Classic began 12 years ago in honor of Laurent Clerc. Clerc, who
\nwas deaf, is widely responsible for developing educational programs
\nspecifically for deaf students in the United States. Teaching for 50 years,
\nClerc positively impacted thousands of deaf students, with many becoming
\ncommunity leaders, spearheading the creation of schools for the deaf
\nthroughout the country. Today, several states across the United States
\npractice Clerc’s teaching methods.<\/p>\n

“This is much more than just a sponsorship – it’s about building community,”
\nsaid Vice President of Large Accounts Henry “Hank” Klopping, Ed.D. “As
\nformer superintendent of the California School for the Deaf, Fremont, I have
\nfond memories of hosting the Clerc Classic and I’m thrilled that I have the
\nopportunity to continue to support such a great event working with Purple.”<\/p>\n

Participating schools include California School for the Deaf, Riverside,
\nCalifornia School for the Deaf, Fremont, Alabama School for the Deaf, Model
\nSecondary School for the Deaf, Illinois School for the Deaf, Maryland School
\nfor the Deaf, Texas School for the Deaf, and this year’s host, Indiana
\nSchool for the Deaf.<\/p>\n
