The U.S. Department of Transportation is very interested in your
\nparticipation \u2013in a new on-line dialogue focused on sharing your
\nthoughts about how to enhance transparency, participation and
\ncollaboration: https:\/\/opendot20.ideascale.com\/a\/panel.do<\/a><\/p>\n

Specifically, we are looking for your input to help shape DOT’s next
\nOpen Government Plan by March 2, 2012! Open Government is an initiative
\nspearheaded by the President that seeks to improve government
\ntransparency, participation and collaboration. (Read more about the
\ninitiative here.)<\/p>\n

* Transparency promotes accountability by providing transportation
\nstakeholders and the public with information about what the Government
\nis doing.
\n* Participation allows transportation stakeholders and members of the
\npublic to contribute ideas and expertise so that their government can
\nmake policies with the benefit of information that is widely dispersed
\nin society.
\n* Collaboration improves the effectiveness of Government by encouraging
\npartnerships and cooperation within the Federal Government, across
\nlevels of government, and between the Government and private
\ninstitutions.<\/p>\n

We recognize that YOUR feedback is critical to ensure the initiatives
\nwe prioritize for the next two years meet the needs of our
\nstakeholders. So we want to hear from you about the following items in
\nparticular as we craft our next Open Government Plan:<\/p>\n

* New approaches and technologies that would enable DOT to be more
\nopen, efficient and save taxpayer money
\n* Additional information and high-value data we could provide to be
\nmore accountable, improve knowledge of our policies and programs, and
\ncreate economic opportunity
\n* Specific opportunities to further encourage two-way conversations
\nwith stakeholders and members of the public to share ideas and
\nexpertise to improve our policies and programs
\n* Specific ideas for prizes\/contests and other innovative methods our
\nprograms can use to could attract others to work with us and solve our
\nnation\u2019s transportation problems<\/p>\n
