He is the author of the autobiographical novel and autoethnography, &#8220;d\/Deaf and d\/Dumb: A Portrait of a Deaf Kid as a Young Superhero,&#8221; published by Peter Lang. Currently, Joe is the co-principal investigator of the video ethnography project &#8220;Kindergartens for the Deaf in Three Countries: Japan, France and the United States,&#8221; funded by the Spencer Foundation.<\/p>\n<p>In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event.
