N.Y. \u2013 Deaf and hard-of-hearing students from across the<br \/>\ncountry are invited to attend one of three summer career awareness<br \/>\ncamps focusing on science, technology, business and art at Rochester<br \/>\nInstitute of Technology\u2019s National Technical Institute for the Deaf.<br \/>\nHundreds of students are expected.<\/p>\n<p>Each program features hands-on activities during the day, social<br \/>\nactivities in the evenings and accommodations in a college dorm room.<br \/>\nThe programs are intended to promote interest in specific fields and<br \/>\ndetermine what career options may interest and motivate the students.<\/p>\n<p>* <strong>Explore Your Future<\/strong> is a six-day career awareness program for<br \/>\ncollege-bound high school sophomores and juniors who are deaf or hard<br \/>\nof hearing. Students experience college life, enjoy hands-on<br \/>\nactivities, and get a taste of careers in the fields of business,<br \/>\ncomputing, engineering, science and art. Choice of two sessions, July<br \/>\n14 \u2013 19 or July 21 \u2013 26, 2012. Registration deadline is April 30.<br \/>\nDetails are available at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rit.edu\/NTID\/EYF\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/www.rit.edu\/NTID\/EYF<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>* <strong>TechGirlz and TechBoyz<\/strong> are week-long summer camps held July 28 \u2013 Aug.<br \/>\n3, 2012, for deaf and hard-of-hearing girls and boys respectively,<br \/>\nentering 7th, 8th and 9th grade who are interested in careers in<br \/>\nscience, technology, engineering and math. Campers build computers to<br \/>\ntake home, discover the secrets of roller coasters, conduct experiments<br \/>\nin a high-tech lab and more. Registration deadline is May 31. Campers enjoy hands-on career-related<br \/>\nactivities and meet new friends. RIT enrolls 17,000 full- and part-time<br \/>\nstudents in more than 200 career-oriented and professional programs,<br \/>\nand its cooperative education program is one of the oldest and largest<br \/>\nin the nation.<\/p>\n<p>NTID, one of nine colleges of RIT, was established by Congress in 1965<br \/>\nto provide college\u00a0opportunities for deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals<br \/>\nwho were\u00a0underemployed in technical fields. A record 1,547 students<br \/>\nattend NTID;\u00a0more than 1,350 are deaf or hard of hearing. Others are hearing<br \/>\nstudents enrolled in interpreting or deaf education programs.
