National Summer Career Awareness Camps for Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing<\/strong>
\n Students<\/strong><\/p>\n

Rochester. N.Y. \u2013 Deaf and hard-of-hearing students from across the
\ncountry are invited to attend one of three summer career awareness
\ncamps focusing on science, technology, business and art at Rochester
\nInstitute of Technology\u2019s National Technical Institute for the Deaf.
\nHundreds of students are expected.<\/p>\n

Each program features hands-on activities during the day, social
\nactivities in the evenings and accommodations in a college dorm room.
\nThe programs are intended to promote interest in specific fields and
\ndetermine what career options may interest and motivate the students.<\/p>\n

* Explore Your Future<\/strong> is a six-day career awareness program for
\ncollege-bound high school sophomores and juniors who are deaf or hard
\nof hearing. Students experience college life, enjoy hands-on
\nactivities, and get a taste of careers in the fields of business,
\ncomputing, engineering, science and art. Choice of two sessions, July
\n14 \u2013 19 or July 21 \u2013 26, 2012. Registration deadline is April 30.

* TechGirlz and TechBoyz<\/strong> are week-long summer camps held July 28 \u2013 Aug.
\n3, 2012, for deaf and hard-of-hearing girls and boys respectively,
\nentering 7th, 8th and 9th grade who are interested in careers in
\nscience, technology, engineering and math. Campers build computers to
\ntake home, discover the secrets of roller coasters, conduct experiments
\nin a high-tech lab and more. Registration deadline is May 31. Details

* Steps to Success<\/strong> is a weekend mini-camp on Aug. 3 \u2013 5, 2012, for 7th,
\n8th and 9th grade African American, Native American and Latino students
\nwho are deaf or hard of hearing. Campers enjoy hands-on career-related
\nactivities and meet new friends. Registration deadline is May 31, 2012.

RIT is internationally recognized for academic leadership in computing,
\nengineering, imaging technology, sustainability and fine and applied
\narts, in addition to unparalleled support services for students who are
\ndeaf or hard of hearing. RIT enrolls 17,000 full- and part-time
\nstudents in more than 200 career-oriented and professional programs,
\nand its cooperative education program is one of the oldest and largest
\nin the nation.<\/p>\n

NTID, one of nine colleges of RIT, was established by Congress in 1965
\nto provide college\u00a0opportunities for deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals
\nwho were\u00a0underemployed in technical fields. A record 1,547 students
\nattend NTID;\u00a0more than 1,350 are deaf or hard of hearing. Others are hearing
