Book Signing, Presentation and Q&A with author of Austin\u2019s Gift<\/p>\n

Austin, Texas \u2013 March 23, 2012 At only eight days old in a Chicago
\nhospital, Lauren Aggen received a miraculous gift from Austin Texas \u2013 a
\ndonor heart that saved her life.<\/p>\n

Aggen visits Austin March 23, 2012 for the first time to share her
\nstory – Austin\u2019s Gift, with a book signing and Q&A hosted at the Texas
\nSchool for the Deaf (TSD).<\/p>\n

A transplant survivor, Aggen is now a third year student majoring in
\nMultidiciplinary Studies at Rochester Institute of Technology\u2019s
\nNational Technical Institute for the Deaf (RIT\/NTID).<\/p>\n

Medication Aggen received the week she was born while awaiting a
\ntransplant caused her hearing loss, and she will always require
\nanti-rejection medication. But, discouraged? Not Aggen.<\/p>\n

\u201cI traded certain death for a long-term medical condition, she says.
\nI\u2019ve been very fortunate that my heart matched and has done so well.
\nThanks to a family that made a precious gift, I have had many wonderful
\nopportunities.\u201d<\/p>\n

In her book, Aggen – who fondly named her heart donor, Austin –
\nchronicles her life and pays tribute to the family that gave her a
\nsecond chance at life by donating their child\u2019s organs.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is truly a miracle that people whom I never knew, and who never
\nknew I existed, were willing to do that, so that I could be here today
\nto write my story. Austin and his family have taught me a very
\nimportant virtue: every day is a gift. I\u2019m able to tell you my story
\nbecause of Austin\u2019s family, who, despite their great loss, were able to
\ngive a gift that will last me my entire life.\u201d<\/p>\n

“This is the life story of a 20-year-old college student who received a
\nheart transplant at eight days old. Through personal reflections and
\nthe stories of parents and family friends, the author relates the

\nwhen she was a newborn left her with permanent hearing loss and how
