{"id":18194,"date":"2012-04-02T09:11:49","date_gmt":"2012-04-02T14:11:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/deafnetwork.com\/wordpress\/?p=18194"},"modified":"2012-04-02T09:11:49","modified_gmt":"2012-04-02T14:11:49","slug":"nad-call-for-awards-nominations-2012","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/deafnetwork.com\/wordpress\/blog\/2012\/04\/02\/nad-call-for-awards-nominations-2012\/","title":{"rendered":"NAD Call for Awards Nominations 2012"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>NAD Call for Awards Nominations<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The National Association of the Deaf (NAD) invites nominations for Recognition Awards to be presented during the 51st Biennial NAD Conference to be held July 3-7, 2012 in Louisville, KY.<\/p>\n<p>Do you know an advocate who deserves recognition for their volunteer work that improves on the equality, dignity, and independence of deaf and hard of hearing Americans?<\/p>\n<p>Is there a business or service that has gone above and beyond to make their workplace a model of accessibility \u2013 one that provides opportunities for training and advancement of their deaf and hard of hearing employees?<\/p>\n<p>What about a business that seeks the advice of deaf and hard of hearing consumers in the development and provision of their product or service to the community?<\/p>\n<p>Do you know an individual State Association member who has demonstrated leadership excellence?<\/p>\n<p>Is there an educator who has made an extraordinary impact on her\/his students?<\/p>\n<p>Click here for the 2012 NAD Awards Nomination Form<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nad.org\/forms\/nad-award-nomination-form\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/www.nad.org\/forms\/nad-award-nomination-form<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Nomination Deadline<br \/>\nAll nominations must be received at NAD no later than Monday, April 16, 2012. Nominations received after this date will not be accepted. Incomplete or inaccurate nomination forms will not be accepted.<\/p>\n<p>Selection Process<br \/>\nAll nomination packages that meet submission requirements will be reviewed by the NAD Awards Committee which will make its recommendations to the NAD Board of Directors for final selection of recipients. The Golden Rose and the NAD-RID Outstanding Service to Interpreting have their own selection processes.<\/p>\n<p>Notification<br \/>\nRecipients of NAD Recognition Awards will be announced prior to the Conference; they will receive a personal letter of notification that will include the specific day and time of the award presentation during the 51st Biennial NAD Conference, July 3-7, 2012 in Louisville, KY.<\/p>\n<p>Recognition Awards<br \/>\nAccessibility Award &#8211; Presented to an individual or organizational entity, this award recognizes exceptional efforts to bring about greater accessibility for the benefit of deaf or hard of hearing Americans.<\/p>\n<p>Frederick C. Schreiber Distinguished Service Award<br \/>\nPresented in memory of the first NAD Executive Director (1966-78), this award recognizes an individual member of NAD deemed to have contributed, on a volunteer basis and nationwide, to the well being of deaf and hard of hearing people in the United States during the previous two years.<\/p>\n<p>Andrew J. Foster Memorial Award<br \/>\nPresented in memory of Andrew J. Foster who was a missionary educator, this award recognizes an individual who has demonstrated excellence in teaching activities or contributed to the field of education.<\/p>\n<p>Golden Rose Award<br \/>\nPresented in memory of Frederick C. Schreiber, NAD Executive Director (1966-78), this award recognizes an individual who has provided a lifetime of volunteer service of lasting benefit to the deaf community and has established a model of behavior for young deaf people to emulate.<\/p>\n<p>Robert M. Greenmun Memorial Award<br \/>\nPresented in memory of Robert Greenmun, NAD Secretary-Treasurer (1946-64), this award recognizes an individual State Association member who has demonstrated leadership excellence and contributions to his\/her state association on a voluntary basis.<\/p>\n<p>Knights of the Flying Fingers (KFF) Awards<br \/>\nPresented to individual NAD members, this award is given in recognition of outstanding and dedicated volunteer service on behalf of the NAD.<\/p>\n<p>Randall McClelland Memorial Award<br \/>\nPresented to an individual NAD member, this award recognizes exceptional leadership on behalf of deaf and hard of hearing people that also serves an inspiration to many.<\/p>\n<p>NAD-RID Outstanding Service to Interpreting Award<br \/>\nPresented to an individual member of the National Association of the Deaf (NAD) or the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID), this award recognizes significant dedication to and involvement with improving the quality of interpreting in the United States. The nominee should be a person who has shown outstanding commitment to enhancing the quality of interpreting within a framework that recognizes the importance of collaboration between deaf, hard of hearing people and the interpreting profession.<\/p>\n<p>Senior Citizens Award<br \/>\nPresented to an individual member of NAD, this award recognizes the consummate deaf senior citizen volunteer who has applied his\/her energy and talent to make a difference in the community and the world around them.<\/p>\n<p>Spirit of the NAD Award<br \/>\nPresented to an individual member of NAD, this award recognizes a person who carries the spirit of the NAD in all levels of their work, demonstrating exemplary commitment, dedication, and service.<\/p>\n<p>State Association Award<br \/>\nPresented to a State Association, this award gives recognition for exceptional advocacy programs and services, including membership outreach and communications.<\/p>\n<p>Youth Service Award<br \/>\nPresented to two individuals &#8211; one between the ages of 14-18 years, and the other between the ages of 19-28 years &#8211; this award recognizes youth whose dedication, vision, and leadership have made a difference in the community and the world around them.<\/p>\n<p>Nomination Form Requirements<br \/>\nDetailed information about the nominee (bio\/background) and qualifications for the selected award, making sure to address award objectives and\/or criteria in the Call for NAD Recognition Awards.<\/p>\n<p>Please note that for some awards, nominees must be individual NAD members in order to qualify and must have provided their service on a voluntary basis. For the Golden Rose Award, in addition to the above, the nomination package must include a description of the service provided to the deaf community and how the nominee, by providing the service, established a model of behavior for young people to follow.<\/p>\n<p>Nominations Submission Deadline<br \/>\nClick here for the 2012 NAD Awards Nomination Form \u2013 the package for each individual or organizational nomination can be sent via email or postal mail \u2013 for receipt no later than Monday, April 16, 2012.
