Description<\/p>\n

Interpreting is a very personal journey. Everyone learns at his or her
\nown pace. Yet when it comes time to put those skills to the test, most
\npeople have the same elevation in stress level. If you don\u2019t know what
\nto expect, have no chance to do a \u201cpractice run\u201d, the stress can be
\noverwhelming. This workshop is designed to help participants better
\nunderstand what the current BEI testing system looks like and what to
\nexpect when taking it. We will then look at general ideas and
\ntechniques that can help in any interpreting performance test
\nsituation. There will be opportunities to practice audio texts in both
\nASL and English, with material that approximates the difficulty level
\nand speed of the BEI Basic test, as well as looking at ways to showcase
\nthe features of each language. Additionally, there will be
\nopportunities to practice sight translation techniques so that
\nparticipants will understand not only what is expected of them, but
\nalso have an idea of how to demonstrate a thorough knowledge of this
\naspect of interpreting.<\/p>\n

Knowing what is expected and having a strategy in mind to help meet
\nthose expectations can greatly reduce the \u201cfear of the unknown\u201d that
\nmany interpreters face when taking a performance test. This workshop
\nwill provide ideas to help reduce text anxiety, and allow interpreters
\na greater level of confidence when putting those newly learned
\ninterpreting skills to the test.<\/p>\n

Cost $25.00 – All Proceeds going to the Marvin B Loeb Scholarship for
\nTarrant County College<\/p>\n
