DRobotZ Coming to RIT\/NTID<\/strong><\/p>\n

APRIL 13, 2012<\/p>\n

A new summer camp is being offered at Rochester Institute of
\nTechnology\u2019s National Technical Institute of the Deaf for deaf and
\nhard-of-hearing boys and girls entering 9th or 10th grade in the fall.<\/p>\n

During DRobotZ, held July 28 to Aug. 10, 2012, the students will build
\nand program a functional robot that they will take home with them after
\nthe two-week camp. They will also learn more about technology, math,
\nscience and computing, as well as meet their peers from all around the
\ncountry and stay in college residence halls.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a great opportunity for deaf and hard-of-hearing boys and
\ngirls to learn about robots and computers, make friends and find out
\nhow to become a whiz at computing,\u201d says Mark Wambach, program director
\nfor DRobotZ. \u201cThey will conduct scientific experiments with robots and
\nmeet deaf and hard-of-hearing people in computing fields.\u201d<\/p>\n

Tuition includes housing, meals, construction materials and evening
\nentertainment activities, such as bowling, movies, visiting an
\namusement park and more. Deadline to apply is May 31, 2012.<\/p>\n

RIT is internationally recognized for academic leadership in computing,
\nengineering, imaging technology, sustainability and fine and applied
\narts, in addition to unparalleled support services for students who are
\ndeaf or hard of hearing. RIT enrolls 17,000 full- and part-time
\nstudents in more than 200 career-oriented and professional programs,
\nand its cooperative education program is one of the oldest and largest
\nin the nation.<\/p>\n

NTID, one of nine colleges of RIT, was established by Congress in 1965
\nto provide college opportunities for deaf and hard-of-hearing
\nindividuals who were underemployed in technical fields. Today, a record
\n1,547 students attend NTID; more than 1,350 are deaf or hard of
\nhearing. Others are hearing students enrolled in interpreting or deaf
