Provides for the development of jobs for deaf and hard of hearing individuals in conjunction with the Program Manager. Develops and maintains a network of employers to hire deaf and hard of hearing individuals Conducts job search workshops focused on application\/resume completion, interviewing skills, on-the-job communication and job retention. Provides sign language interpreting. Works cooperatively with other members of Deaf Services staff to maximize client services.<\/p>\n<p>PROGRAM: Deaf Services<\/p>\n<p>SALARY: Grade III \u2013 Part Time<\/p>\n<p>JOB REQUIREMENTS:<\/p>\n<p>Education:<\/p>\n<p>* a bachelor&#8217;s degree in rehabilitation, business, marketing, or related human services;<br \/>\nand one year of documented experience providing employment services to individuals;<br \/>\nor<\/p>\n<p>* an associate degree in rehabilitation, business, marketing, or related human services; and<br \/>\ntwo years of documented experience providing employment services to individuals; or<\/p>\n<p>* a high school diploma or GED, and at least three years of documented experience<br \/>\nproviding employment services to individuals.<\/p>\n<p>Experience:<\/p>\n<p>* Experience with deaf and hard of hearing clients. Areas of preferred experience include job<br \/>\nplacement, social work, vocational rehabilitation, interpreting, or teaching.<\/p>\n<p>Skills:<\/p>\n<p>* Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work as a highly cooperative member of a team<br \/>\nto develop and accomplish agency and departmental goals.<\/p>\n<p>* Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) in both expressive and receptive capabilities<br \/>\nwith the ability to provide quality interpreting services.<\/p>\n<p>* Excellent knowledge of deafness and deaf culture.<\/p>\n<p>* Knowledge of the Houston job market and future employment trends.<\/p>\n<p>* Extremely professional presentation and ability interface easily with hiring authorities.<\/p>\n<p>* Ability to work with public and private employers and other social service agencies.<\/p>\n<p>* Excellent writing skills.<\/p>\n<p>* Ability to develop jobs in the private sector.<\/p>\n<p>* Ability to use equipment that assists deaf and hard of hearing individuals such as a<br \/>\nvideophones, loops, and to use services that serve the deaf such as Video Relay Services.<\/p>\n<p>* Operation and availability of a motor vehicle.<\/p>\n<p>DUTIES:<\/p>\n<p>* Provide comprehensive case management services to ensure that clients are properly prepared to engage<br \/>\nin a successful job search.<\/p>\n<p>* Develop and implement employment plan for each client and to that end, set realistic goals, action steps,<br \/>\nand time frames for their successful completion.<\/p>\n<p>* Provide for supportive services to enhance the clients\u2019 ability to get a job (haircuts, referral for<br \/>\ninterviewing outfits, bus tokens for transportation to interviews, etc.).<\/p>\n<p>* Conduct job search skills workshops in ASL.<\/p>\n<p>* Solicit job orders and match clients to appropriate job openings.<\/p>\n<p>* Perform follow-up to determine and document clients\u2019 employment status. Maintain contact with client<br \/>\nand employer for 90 days to assist with and document job maintenance.<\/p>\n<p>* Work with DARS Counselors and send monthly reports on their clients\u2019 progress.<\/p>\n<p>* Negotiate job offers with employers.<\/p>\n<p>* Provide interpreter services for clients at job interviews<\/p>\n<p>* Other duties as assigned.<\/p>\n<p>Supervisor: Manager, Deaf Services<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Job Opening: CRR in Houston Career &amp; Recovery Resources, Inc.
