Sexual Harassment? No Interpreter? #DO-DO YOU? – Austin<\/strong><\/p>\n

Co-conducted by Safe Place \u2013Deaf Services and CAAG of Austin<\/p>\n

As a Deaf or Hard of Hearing individual in a work environment, have you
\never experienced any of the following:<\/p>\n

1) Feeling unsure if someone else\u2019s behavior is a sexual harassment?
\n2) Feeling \u201ctrapped\u201d because of communication barriers?
\n3) Discrimination because your request for a qualified interpreter or
\nanother accommodation to ensure effective communication to discuss a
\nsexual harassment situation was denied?
\n4) Not knowing your civil rights?<\/p>\n

If you answered \u201cYes\u201d to at least one of the above questions, come
\nlearn how to self-advocate as a Deaf or Hard of Hearing individual.
\nThere are ways you can handle sexual harassment or disability
\ndiscrimination by self-advocating for your rights or get advocacy
\nservices. When this does not work, there are specific guidelines to
\nfollow in filing complaints with various agencies. Come learn how to
\nimprove your life and the life of others in the most positive ways
\npossible. The training is scheduled and located at:<\/p>\n

CAAG & SafePlace<\/p>\n

The Speakers Terese Rognmo is the Advocate\/Educator for the Deaf
\nServices program at SafePlace. SafePlace is a non-profit organization
\nthat provides services for women, children, men who are currently or
\nhave recently experienced domestic violence and\/or sexual assault.
\nTerese provides case management (i.e., safety planning, assist with
\nlegal referrals, provides basic items, connections to other agencies,
\netc.) and community trainings (i.e., healthy relationships, bullying,
\nbystander, domestic violence, etc.). The Deaf Services program is free
\nand we practice confidentiality.<\/p>\n

Brian Determan, an ASL-native deaf individual, serves as the Deafness
\nResource Specialist 7A, through Communication Axess Ability Group, for
\na program funded by Texas DARS (Department of Assistive and
\nRehabilitative Services) \u2013 Office for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services
\n(DHHS). He works with various agencies and service providers regarding
\ntheir access obligations under the Americans with Disabilities Act and
\nthe Rehabilitation Act. His training will empower deaf or hard of
\nhearing individuals with knowledge of their civil rights and how to
\nself-advocate.<\/p>\n

Accommodations for participants such as real time captioning (C.A.R.T.)
\nor sign to voice interpreter services must be requested by Thursday,
