CERT Train-the-Trainer for Deaf and Hard of Hearing<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Texas Citizen Corps Program in partnership with the Texas
\nDepartment of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services (DARS) is pleased
\nto announce a special training for the deaf\/hard of hearing community.<\/p>\n

* G428: CERT Train-the-Trainer (TtT) Course \u2013 June 4 through June 6,
\n2012, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and June 7th 8:00 a.m. to Noon.<\/p>\n

This statewide CERT TtT Course is available free of charge for the deaf
\nand hard of hearing community. Scholarship opportunities are available
\nfor one approved applicant from each COG region to attend from out of
\ntown. A stipend of up to $500 will be made available as funding allows.
\nFurther details will be made available to the approved applicants.<\/p>\n

Below is a general description of the course. This training will be
\nconducted by CERT Master Instructors from Centurion Solutions LLC
\nsupported by qualified\/certified interpreters and CART providers, and
\nwill be delivered with community outreach guidance as provided by DARS
\nand DARS\/Office for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services (DHHS).<\/p>\n

Classes will be held at the Capital Area Council of Government Training
\nfacility, 6800 Burleson Rd., Building 130, Suite 165, Austin, TX 78744.<\/p>\n

G428: CERT Train-the-Trainer Course<\/p>\n

The new Train-the-Trainer Course focuses on preparing instructors to:<\/p>\n

* Deliver the CERT Basic Training Course accurately.
\n* Convey the messages and intent of the CERT Program (e.g., safety,
\nteamwork, place in overall community emergency operations plan).
\n* Assure that students achieve the objectives of the CERT Basic
\nTraining.
\n* Create a comfortable yet managed learning environment for CERT
\nparticipants.<\/p>\n

The audience for this three-day course includes current and prospective
\nCERT instructors, CERT course managers, and those who train CERT
\ninstructors.<\/p>\n

The audience for this course includes any professional or volunteer
\ninterested in becoming a local CERT instructor. Participants will
\ndevelop ideas to help start a new program or to revitalize an ongoing
\nprogram in their communities.<\/p>\n

Pre-Requisites:<\/p>\n

* IS 317 – Introduction to CERT Click here to take the IS 317 course<\/p>\n

* Attendance\/completion of the classroom training offered by local
\ngovernment agencies is highly encouraged.<\/p>\n

* Previous Instructor, Adult Education or Deaf Education experience.<\/p>\n

* Participants are also highly encouraged to become familiar with the
\nNational Incident Management System (NIMS) and the Incident Command
\nStructure (ICS). Basic online courses can be found at
\n http:\/\/training.fema.gov\/emicourses\/<\/a>. Courses to focus on include
\nIS 700, 800 and ICS 100, 200.<\/p>\n

Course Delivery<\/p>\n

The delivery of the CERT Train-the-Trainer Course will be offered as a
\nthree and a half day block of training. Participants must be present
\nall days to receive certificate of completion. Homeland Security Grant
\nProgram funding can be used to fund travel and lodging for the
\ntraining.<\/p>\n
