JOB PURPOSE<\/p>\n

In collaboration with Gallaudet University’s Center for Continuing
\nStudies, the Laurent Clerc National Deaf Education Center and other
\nGallaudet University departments, initiate, plan, organize and
\nimplement projects across the region in support of Gallaudet
\nUniversity’s strategic plan, including conferences, training, and
\ncourses to meet the needs of deaf and hard of hearing people, their
\nfamilies, and professionals who serve them.\u00c2 \u00c2 Coordinate identified
\nSouthwest Region programs through a complete development cycle from
\nproject definition to development, dissemination, and evaluation.
\nCoordinate the process for determining project goals, budgets, and time
\nlines, in collaboration with other stakeholders. \u00c2 Prepare project
\ncommunications including regular status updates.<\/p>\n

REPORTS TO<\/p>\n

Director of Gallaudet University Regional Center<\/p>\n

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND TASKS<\/p>\n

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other
\nduties may be assigned.<\/p>\n

1. Assist the director of the Regional Center in developing a long
\nrange strategic plan in collaboration Gallaudet Universitys Center
\nfor Continuing, the Laurent Clerc National Deaf Education Center and
\nother Gallaudet University Departments to serve the Southwestern
\nstates; by developing a communication network of professionals in the
\nfield of deaf education, developing a network of educational services
\nto deaf and hard of hearing students, and developing a network of
\nprofessionals in deaf and hard of hearing related fields. Initiates and
\nmaintains contacts and resources from identified states within the
\nregion; actively pursues collaborative opportunities. Identify and
\nrespond to training needs and requests throughout the region including
\nidentifying presenters, coordinating logistics, recommending budget
\nguidelines for Regional Center sponsored activities.<\/p>\n

2. Utilizes technology in all aspects of the work, including the
\ndevelopment and maintenance of networks; e.g. websites, online
\ncommunities, video conferencing.<\/p>\n

3. Remain abreast of current trends and issues in education,
\nrehabilitation, culture, and linguistics as they relate to deaf and
\nhard of hearing individuals; including best practices and promising
\npractices in the education of deaf and hard of hearing students of all
\nage levels, evaluation of training, instructional systems design,
\nperformance improvement, relevant technology, principles of adult
\nlearning, and effective practices in staff development. Provides input
\nand review on deaf education efforts whenever necessary.<\/p>\n

4. Develop professional networks across the region. Actively pursue
\ncollaborative opportunities, identify and respond to training needs and
\nrequests throughout the region. Be proactive in creating new
\nopportunities for Gallaudet University to have an impact in the region.
\nHandle multiple projects simultaneously. Support the GURC\u2019s public
\nrelations role, representing Gallaudet University and providing
\ninformation about the academic, service and support programs at the
\nUniversity as well as all training, publications, outreach,
\npartnership, enrollment, and recruitment initiatives. Assist with
\nother GURC activities as assigned.<\/p>\n

5. Assist with traveling (cities in Texas and the rest of 7 states in
\nthe region), plans, organization and implementation of workshops,
\nconferences and seminars. Handle significant issues and projects on
\nbehalf of the Regional Center by organizing and executing the work
\ninvolved, dealing extensively with key individuals on a local, state,
\nregional, and national level. Provides direct services to constituents,
\nincluding training and technical assistance related to professional
\ndevelopment and lifelong learning needs of deaf and hard of hearing
\npeople, their families, and the professionals who work with them,
\nthrough workshops, training programs, conferences, extension courses,
\nprofessional studies courses, online classes, cultural arts and special
\nevents.<\/p>\n

6. Assist with the efforts of the Gallaudet University Regional Center
\nto meet contract objectives. Assist in the preparation of reports and
\nactivity documentation.<\/p>\n

7. Supports the Regional Center\u2019s public relations role by regularly
\nsharing information about all aspects of Gallaudet University programs
\nand initiatives with contacts throughout the region. Remains well
\ninformed about the academic, service and support programs at Gallaudet
\nUniversity and all training, publications, outreach, partnership,
\nenrollment, and recruitment initiatives underway.<\/p>\n

8. Supports the mission of Gallaudet University and Austin Community
\nCollege, as well as the unique partnership represented by the role and
\nfunction of the Regional Center. Demonstrates thorough knowledge of the
\nUniversity and the College.<\/p>\n

9. Serve on institutional committees. Serve on local, state, regional
\nor national committees and perform other duties as assigned.<\/p>\n

Two years of work experience in deaf education, rehabilitation or

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution<\/p>\n

This position is grant funded on an annual basis by Gallaudet
\nUniversity\u2019s College of Professional Studies and Outreach. Gallaudet
\nUniversity Regional Center serves the Southwest states of Arizona,
\nArkansas, Colorado, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas and Utah.
\nUnder general supervision of the Director of Gallaudet University
\nRegional Center, to develop collaborative relationships with
\neducational programs and professionals in deaf and hard of hearing
\nrelated fields throughout the Southwestern region in keeping with the
\nmission of the Regional Center.The Gallaudet Regional Center has been
\nlocated at Austin Community College \u2013 Riverside Campus. This position
\ncommences as soon as possible and the contract period lasts through
\nSeptember 30, 2011. This is a specially funded program and continuance
\nin this position beyond September 30, 2011will be dependant upon the
\nsatisfactory performance and the availability of federal funding for
\nthis program. Funding is received from Gallaudet.<\/p>\n

Full-time Faculty and Staffing Table employees who work in full-time
\nand\/or part-time positions at the College are eligible for ACC medical
\nbenefits effective the first of the month after their first 90 days of
\nemployment. Benefits include medical, dental, life insurance, short and
\nlong term disability, retirement plans and AD&D.<\/p>\n

ACC does not participate in Social Security. ACC participates in the
\nTeacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS) and the Optional Retirement
\nProgram (ORP-Faculty Only). Part-time and Hourly employees participate
\nin the ACC Money Purchase Plan (ACCMPP) as a retirement program
\nrequired by Federal law.<\/p>\n
