Friends Rally Around Former Local Couple Whose Son Was Killed<\/strong><\/p>\n

June 3, 2012<\/p>\n

WACO (June 2, 2012)–On April 14 everything changed for former Waco
\nresidents Joseph and Eva Keith.<\/p>\n

Their son, Timothy, 5, was killed when a taxi hit him while the family
\nwas visiting New York City.<\/p>\n

The Keith’s are deaf, as was their son.<\/p>\n

After attending Texas State Technical College, the Keiths recently
\nmoved to Washington, D.C. and were on a day trip to New York City when
\nthe accident occurred.<\/p>\n

Six weeks later, the deaf community of Central Texas held a fundraiser
\nSaturday at the Lion’s Den in Waco to help the family with funeral
\nexpenses and to remember the energetic little boy.<\/p>\n

Eva still mourns the loss of her son.<\/p>\n

“My son when we was gone I felt so bad, so much that it was like he was
\ngone and I cried. I cried all the time.”<\/p>\n

Even people who did not know the family attended the event, building
\nbridges between the deaf and hearing communities.<\/p>\n

Timothy’s teacher from Viking Hills Elementary choked up as she
\nrecalled the last time her class saw him.<\/p>\n

“We got to see Tim two weeks before he died, the children had made a
\ncall on the video phone and so he was a very important part of our
\nclassroom even after he moved.”<\/p>\n

Nationwide, deaf communities in Houston and Washington D.C. are helping
\nraise funds.<\/p>\n

Organizers are hoping to raise $10,000 for the Keith family.<\/p>\n

Donations can be made to the Tim Keith memorial fund at Central
\nNational Bank.<\/p>\n
