Developmental courses require teaching<br \/>\nexperience.<\/p>\n<p>Preferred Qualifications<\/p>\n<p>-Earned master&#8217;s degree in American Sign Language, ASL Linguistics,<br \/>\nInterpretation, Deaf Studies, Deaf Education, or closely related field<\/p>\n<p>-A broad knowledge and understanding of Deaf culture and the Deaf<br \/>\ncommunity<\/p>\n<p>-Recent experience in teaching ASL for credit in post-secondary program<\/p>\n<p>-Fluency in ASL communication skills with a strong linguistic or<br \/>\ngrammar base<\/p>\n<p>-Good communication skills working with Deaf and hearing colleagues<\/p>\n<p>-Hearing candidates should have sign language certification at the<br \/>\nadvanced, master or national level<\/p>\n<p>-A commitment to excellence in teaching, and willingness to collaborate<br \/>\nextensively with other professionals in the ASL\/Deaf<br \/>\nEducation\/Interpreting programs<\/p>\n<p>-Must be willing to teach day and evening classes<\/p>\n<p>Essential Duties and Responsibilities<\/p>\n<p>Accepts and teaches classes based on varied schedules (morning,<br \/>\nafternoon, evening and weekends) to accommodate diverse student needs<br \/>\nand external stakeholders&#8217; expectations of College as assigned by<br \/>\ndesignated supervisor.<\/p>\n<p>Demonstrates a sensitivity toward and respect for the myriad of<br \/>\ndiversities represented in the student population, colleagues and<br \/>\nservice area.<\/p>\n<p>Aids in the development of curricula, including individual course<br \/>\nsyllabi as assigned.<br \/>\nPrepares and delivers instruction to students.<\/p>\n<p>Actively pursues and participates in professional development<br \/>\nactivities to enhance skills in various modes of instruction and<br \/>\nknowledge of learning.<\/p>\n<p>Works with colleagues to select appropriate textbooks for departmental<br \/>\nadoptions, and abides by departmental decisions for textbooks.<\/p>\n<p>Prepares assignments. May compile bibliographies of specialized<br \/>\nmaterials for outside reading assignments.<\/p>\n<p>Designs and maintains an active classroom environment conducive to<br \/>\nstudent learning and success.<\/p>\n<p>Maintains student attendance records.<\/p>\n<p>Evaluates student performance and learning. Provides regular and timely<br \/>\nevaluation feedback to students.
