Fort Worth Police to Pin the Centennial Panther Badge on Saturday, June<\/strong>
\n 9, 2012<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Fort Worth Police Department will hold a formal pinning of the
\nCentennial Panther Badge on the steps of the Tarrant County Courthouse
\non Saturday, June 9. The ceremony will begin at approximately 8:15 a.m.<\/p>\n

The event will culminate with the official pinning of the badge at 9
\na.m., exactly 100 years to the hour that the original Fort Worth Police
\nPanther Badge went into service on June 9, 1912.<\/p>\n

PUBLIC IS INVITED AND ENCOURAGED TO ATTEND: To prepare for the event,
\ntraffic will be diverted starting at midnight on Saturday morning. A
\nfuture advisory will detail traffic closures. Members of the public
\nattending the event will be allowed to bring lawn chairs. Special
\nseating will be set aside for VIPS and sponsors<\/p>\n

A drop off location for visitors who have special needs and the elderly
\nwill be established at Commerce Street and Weatherford Sts. Parking and
\nbus ride to the ceremony from the academy will be provided free of
\ncharge.<\/p>\n

WHO: Fort Worth Police Department<\/p>\n

WHAT: Pinning of the Centennial Panther Badge. A ceremony that
\nofficially puts the badge into service.<\/p>\n

WHEN: Saturday, June 9 at about 8:15 a.m.<\/p>\n

WHERE: Tarrant County Courthouse Steps, intersection of Main and
\nWeatherford Sts. in Downtown Fort Worth.<\/p>\n

WHY: To mark the 100th anniversary of the Police Department’s Panther
\nBadge. This special Centennial Panther Badge will honor the 100th year
\nof service for Fort Worth’s current police badge, which went into
\nservice on June 9, 1912. The Fort Worth Police Historical Association
\nobtained thousands of dollars in sponsorships from Fort Worth
\nbusinesses and foundations to purchase the commemorative Centennial
\nBadge.<\/p>\n
